what do you get your parents for Christmas?
I need some help. It's so hard to shop for my parents and in laws anymore. They have everything they really need.
TIA.
Re: what do you get your parents for Christmas?
Thats exactly how we feel. IL's got broadway tickets to Mary Poppins (actually, I bought them in April, they were supposed to give me $ and never did, so we're calling it Christmas at this point bc we just went a few weeks ago).
My mom lives with my sister and neice so we figured she could use alone time. Giving her a gift card to the salon so she can go pamper herself. I also got her a ticket to Disney on Ice bc I was getting one for my neice and she said she wanted to go too.
Essentially we try to always do tickets to something or a night out.
My little nuggets

For my FIL and his fi I just put this basket together of small business foods. Coffee, whiskey sour pickles, local soap and creams, and whiskey infused maple syrupy.
50 bucks all from green aisle on passyunk. Packed it all up in a Celementie basket! These two have everything they need so edibles seemed best.
Not so fun:
Mil requested leather gloves
My mom wanted a lighted makeup Mirror and my dad wanted a black belt.
Ugh, I feel the same way.
Last year we got my parents an iPad. Got one for my MIL a couple years ago.
This year for MIL we are getting her 2 tix to see Paula Poundstone, a gift cert to a BYO for before the show and a bottle of wine to take with her. She will love this gift.
My parents are getting a vacuum (my dad gave me the idea) and a photo book OR calendar of DD.
I almost got my parents a subscription for offsite hard drive backup for their laptop so they wouldn't lose all of their pictures if it crashes. My uncle suggested this - may do it next year instead.
In the past we've gotten a Netflix subscription with a basket of movie stuff (candy, slippers, popcorn, wine).
We also did a US Airways gift card with a cosmetic bag, travel organizer (holds passport, tix, ID) and some travel size toiletries.
ETA: We always chip in on gifts with other siblings.
For my mom, we all chipped in and got her a basic laptop because their desktop computer just went caput and she likes to go online and play games and surf the web.
For my dad, we chipped in and got him a digital camera since he keeps buying disposables to take pictures with when he goes fishing. Since it was inexpensive, DH and I will give him money too do he can put it towards a future fishing trip.
MIl gets money. She's complained in the past about gifts so that's what she'll get.
FIL and his SO will get a bottle of wine and a gc to a local restaurant they like.
Every year we got both sets of parents a photo wall calendar with pictures of Emma.
Then it's mostly a mish mash from there.
My Dad is getting a bunch of train stuff...he can never have enough train stuff (in his mind).
My Mom is getting a couple tervis tumblers and an ornament with a picture of their dog painted on it that my friend does.
FIL is getting clothes and a book about baseball
MIL is getting a fancy olive oil from Blue Moon and a gift certificate to go get more.
Since you are in Jersey, I highly recommend checking out Blue Moon Premium Oil and Vinegar on Haddon Ave in Collingswood. They have awesome olive oils and basalmic vinegars. It's all bottled on demand, you can taste anything you want, and it's actually pretty reasonable. And it's delicious. I got my MIL a tuscan herb infused evoo, it was $16 for the large bottle. I got myself a blackberry ginger basalmic vinegar (yes it is as freaking amazing as it sounds)...I think it was $12? Everything is corked and sealed there. I will be buying lots of gifts from there in the future.

For my mom and SD, I made a huge photobook from our trip to Italy and a nice bottle of port from a local winery.
My dad and SM like a Bonefish GC every year, so while not creative, it's easy.
MIL got a printer from all of us (SILs too). Her husband will get a bottle of Baileys and probably something else edible.
FIL and his wife always say no gifts so we do a donation to Heifer Intl and I'll be sending a framed picture of Jack.

My parents and ILs finally gave us a list of suggestions this year, so we went off of that. I got my mom a white down vest from LLBean and a really soft pink scarf that will look really cute with the vest. I made my dad a shutterfly book with photos from his surprise 65th bday party and he wanted a yahtzee game (apparently my parents used to play it all the time when they were young and poor, and its like nostalgic or something).
We chipped in with my BILs and got my FIL a new scope for his hunting rifle. We got my MIL 2 Pandora charms and a crochet needle case.
My parents- Outdoor lights for their walkway, and a bunch of gift cards for each of them.
His parents- Money.....his idea
My mom: Handmade quilted tree skirt and an ornament with D's name and birth date (she requested this)
My dad: A nice Patagonia fleece/sweater
MIL: Rachael Ray cooking utensils that she asked for, and a pair of earrings
FIL: He and DH took a beer-making class together, so we're getting him the kit to do it at home
My parents get a photo calendar every year with pics of kids/dogs/etc.
For my mom this year, my siblings and I went together to get a Keurig.
For my dad, we designed an iphone case with the kids' pictures on it.
MIL will get a digital picture frame with pictures already loaded.
Not sure what DH is getting for MIL's boyfriend, or for his dad and stepmom. That's up to him.
We got my parents these placemats from Paper Source. Kinda random but I think they'll like it: https://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/item/Place-Setting-Placemats/3305_001/439935.html?utm_source=Thanx&utm_medium=PS+Search&utm_campaign=product
Then, my dad is getting a button-down from Jcrew and sunglasses.
My mom is getting a scarf and these pave "diamond" studs that I got for like $5 at JCrew factory.
We haven't even thought about the ILs yet! We'll probably get FIL pajamas and MIL a shirt or something. She's coming to visit us from the UK in January after DS#2 is here, so I'll hit up the after-holiday sales for their gifts!
Mom- my mother and I just had bracelets made from my great grandmothers pocket watch chain. I got little charms with her grand kids initials to hang from it. And season two of downton abbey.
Dad- we all pitch in and get him season tickets to the Trenton Thunder. I also got him a framed picture of the monster
MIL- two charms for her pandora. One is sea glass and the other says 'mom mom'
FIL- dunno. That is the one gift JEGs is in charge of and as far as I know he hasn't gotten him anything. He is the man who has nothing and wants nothing.
