Parents of Toddlers...Christmas presents?

I feel like I've been buying stuff for E all year.  But it's all just little stuff, I feel like I'm missing something and I don't know what.  Last year she got her play kitchen, but no big gift this year.  Biggest gift is just the little people disney princess castle...but that was $35?  I just couldn't think of anything big.

Otherwise it's just a couple disney dvds, a few little minnie mouse things, a new stuffed minnie mouse, a bunch of books, 2 Melissa and Doug puzzles and that's it.

So what are you getting your toddlers?  Maybe I'll get an idea, or at least get over myself and realize I have plenty.

Re: Parents of Toddlers...Christmas presents?

  • His big gift is a balance bike. But that's actually for his birthday.

Under the tree all little things from Santa:

    Thomas train

Plan city bus and taxi/cop car

    Bilbo toy

    Large duplo set

    Broom

    Shovel

    Tape measure

    Dust pan

    And five books.

  • dont think of the cost, i think the castle is a "big" gift and Em will love it! Wrap up everything individually and make a big tower of gifts. Honestly she will probably open everything and love one thing and play with just that all day, or want your iphone to watch Disney Junior!

Anna's gift list is looking exactly the same, seriously,  great minds.... :)

I think that balance bikes look awesome, but maybe more for her birthday in the spring.

I love that your list makes it look like you are putting him to work. :)

I should look into duplos.  She has those giant mega blocks she plays with, but honestly they suck.  They don't stay together and I think her motor skills are such that she could move a little smaller.

haha, her gift should be a better iphone case for my phone...that way I don't kill her when she drops my phone while watching Disney Junior.  You created a monster Kelly! Yesterday she wanted to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the ipad instead of on tv.  I tried to switch to tv (same episode even), and she was not having it.

  • Lego Duplo's are popular in our house, Anna is able to put them together so Em could definitely do it. JD still plays with them as well. In fact he wants more but really, how many legos does one kids need? Pretty sure we have 5-6 sets!

  • Right? Toddlers need to work to keep.

My parents are spoiling him with stuff so I just didn't want to overwhelm our home.

Duplos are pricey but awesome. He stacks his small set all the time.

  • I wouldn't worry about price - get away with spending less when they are too young to know better!

You could always add some more small stuff - play-doh, coloring books, puzzles, maybe some play food for the kitchen set (Melissa and Doug have cute sets).

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I'm a horribly cheap person-- Hunter's "big gift" is a Little People garage I got off Craigslist for $10.  We are also regifting a lot of his birthday presents for Christmas because we didn't want to overwhelm him with toys.

  • I didn't go overboard either.  He's mostly getting clothes, a few M&D puzzles, blocks and my favorite the Phanatic pillow pet!  Oh and Super Grover 2.0 because I couldn't resist.
  • So, we got DS1 the Dirt Devil cleaning set with the broom, dust pan etc for his birthday, and it is awesome.  I taught him how to do base boards with the duster!

for DS1 we did tricycle, M&D abacus, M&D puzzle that is a bunch of sight words, phanatic dangle hat, memory game, doctor's kit, chalk, microphone, some sort of ball puzzle thing DH ordered, books and some various lightning McQueen themed crayola crap.

My parents got him an actual Lightning McQueen car to ride in.  so my answer to the what do you get our parents post is "a capital grill gift card and a side eye".

    Dead!

My biggest fear is getting a Thomas the tank ride on :/

  • Lando, I think you are just fine!  (but I understand the struggle, as I am having the same issue).  For Aisling, we got:

    toddler digital camera (Crayola)

fake ipad (got it for $29)

    3 M&D puzzle/playsets

    3 DVDs

    Ornament

    Doc McStuffins doll

Stocking stuffers- Minnie soap, tiny nail polishes

I feel like maybe one or two more little things but we didn't get any sort of "big" gift...I'm sure we'll get plenty of that from the grandparents...

  • Oh!  I also got her a new dressy coat and some thermal underwear (neither of which will of course excite her) and a Crayola fingerpaint kit.

  • Lando -- I think that list is perfect! We didn't go too overboard for Oliver...

    - a couple SEPTA trains (that are compatible with Thomas wooden trains)
    - Lorax movie and Gigglebellies DVD (he may be a little old for this but he loves the YouTube videos)
    - 3 books
    - fire truck puzzle

My parents are getting him some Thomas wooden tracks, so I guess that's his "big gift" --- I figure that's something we can build upon for future b-days, etc.

  • What did we get Brooks compared with what EVERYONE else got him is stark contrast.

We follow the 4 gift rule, want, need, wear, read. We haven't 100% decided but I think Santa might follow the same rule, our families on the other hand have gone NUTS! We're seriously renting a minivan to bring back everything. This is on top of the outdoor playground he's getting. Oy vey!
