Normally work gift giving goes down -- bosses to staff.
For reasons that are not important in this post, the "bosses" exchange around here because we're "friends", not warm fuzzy close personal friends that I have a clue about what to get them but close enough that we do presents. It's a small office.
I have no idea what to get 2 middle aged (50+) male lawyers here. In the past I have gotten them things like gift baskets of cheese; gift baskets of Italian food; magnums of Dom Perignon; Omaha steaks. I am totally stuck this year & running out of time.
I don't like giving gift cards & besides I can't afford an amount that wouldn't look tacky.
Any brilliant ideas? The one set of law books I thought about getting them actually cost $4,000 so that's not happening.
TIA
Re: Christmas gifts for bosses?
Based on what you said it seems you probably spend about $250-300 per person? Am I correct?
If so, I would do what you have done in the past. or something similar.
Is there a dessert place in your area that is pretty high end, like a nice patisserie? If so, maybe you could get a gift certificate there along with a bottle of french wine or champagne to kind of go with the theme?
Do they golf? You could get them a lesson at the local CC witha golf pro? Do they sail?
Perhaps something like a Tiffany's money clip that is engraved?
Generic gifts are usually best, so I would even revert back to something you got them years ago, it seemed to do the trick.
You are in the ballpark. I like the Tiffany's money clip idea. I'm not sure I have time for engraving but . . .
Thanks.
Sorry, I wasn't even thinking of time.
They have a few choices, some are a lot less expensive, like around $100 and they go up from there.
I think its kind of a universal "man" gift, and you can get one with like a mother of pearl on it, or a gold rim.
Also, my dad gets TONS of gifts from vendors every year. In the ballpark the people ususally spend $250-$500 and these are some of the things he gets
Themed gift baskets, this year's was "summer" and it was tickets to an upcoming summer festival, a beach ball, some "summer treats" and gift certificates to the local clam shack, a gift certificate for Maine Lobsters, and a few Ralph Lauren Beach blankets
He has had baskets or boxes sent that are themes like 70's, foods from around the world, french themed, sports themed, you name it. They get really creative.
He received a crate at our wedding this year filled with 12 bottles of wine, all mixed with a tag that said congrats to the parents of the bride (i am mad he never shared any! lol) and it was just from some site online.
He gets tickets to local sports games (we live in new england so Patriots tickets are a big thing) so maybe you can do something like that? They can always tade in the tickets for a day that works well for them, or Sunday afternoon games tend me be good picks.
He got and itunes card and a new ipod last year too- that's an option.
Hopefully some of these ideas can help you
