I'm sort of at a loss on what to get Nolan for his birthday (11/20) and Christmas. I have a few small things picked out like, new bath toys and blocks--but I'm struggling for bigger gifts.
Both of my kids like the Fisher Price Little people. We currently have the barn, house, and the older alphabet zoo. Any recs for other pieces to add? Or other "bigger" toys for a 1 year old. I think my parents are getting him a ride on toy.
Brinley is really into animals and exploration/pretend play. For instance this weekend we played planets and submarine. Any ideas for toys along those lines? She's also into dolls and wants that monsterous Barbie townhouse.
What are your kids getting?
Re: Christmas (and Birthday) Gift Ideas for Kids
I was going to suggest the same thing as Luckystar, I hope to hit up target after Halloween & get some superhero stuff for Jake on clearance!
Other things that Jake is getting for his bday or Christmas (or ideas I've sent to the grandparents): subscription to Disney Jr. magazine, new underwear (super exciting!), a Dream Lite, puzzles, this Jake & the Neverland pirates set , a new bike helmet, and new leap pad games
Liam: step stool (he and Jake have been "sharing" Jake's when they brush their teeth...and my sharing, I mean that Liam weasels his way onto the stool when Jake is up there, which results in Jake elbowing him off of the stool and telling him that he is cramping his space), this duplo block sorter: http://www.walmart.com/ip/LEGO-DUPLO-Creative-Sorter/17767357
Those are the only ideas I have for Liam...poor second child.

I really want to make DS a train board for Xmas. He loves the table at Learning Express, but it would take up too much space in our playroom. I may try to rope my dad into helping me DIY the board one. There are lots of tutorials online for it.
DD's list is always a random assortment of stuff that she has seen on TV or in Target. Her favorite Xmas present last year was probably a crash cart that she uses to play vet.
For a ride-on toy, DS got a LP one that had a car ramp down the front that he liked. I think it was from Target.
For Claire's 1st birthday, we got her one of those popper push toys, big legos, a personalized chair (I wanted a PBK anywhere chair, but we ended up getting her a camping chair so she could take it places: http://www.personalizationmall.com/Personalized-Blue-Folding-Chairs-for-Kids-i29535.item?productid=10282&sdest=Search&sdestid=22761037) and we did a smaller climber for her big gift: http://www.step2.com/p/All-Star-Sports-Climber
I did this for DD last year and it worked out great! I was able to get a ton of variety for around $30. I went to Target, Walmart and Toys R Us. Walmart had the best selection remaining.
The Duplo Block sorter is cool! We already have a bunch of duplos, but this would be a different addition. And I really feel the poor second child guilt for Nolan. Even though DD is a girl, we have a ton of the typical gender neutral toys.
I feel your pain! I have 2 boys, 21 months apart. I don't think there is anything left to get DS2 because of all the hand me downs.
DS1 really loves his art easel so I'll probly end up buying refil paper, paint, crayons, markers and that kind of thing for him. DH and I have brefly talked about a Leap Pad or one of the other children's tablets for him...but we haven't made a decision yet. He loves Jake and the Nerverland Pirates and I was actually looking at the set a previos poster had mentioned for him. He also loves Hot Wheels so we will probably get him some more tracks and cars. I've also been considering an OK to Wake alarm clock because he keeps getting up at 5 am staying up an hour and then sleeping again until 8.
For DS2 I am still utterly clueless and am still trying to come up with something.
But we always get a few books and a Disney movie/family movie or two to build the collection.
I think it's SO cute, and I want to get it, but he does already have a cars tent. They like to play in that, but sometimes I end up getting annoyed and I take it away because they both get wound up in there, tip it over on each other, on the dog, near other furniture, etc....it kind of causes me anxiety. so I don't know that another similar structure is the way to go for us! is this thing easy to tip over?

my son turns 3 in november and then a month later is christmas. some things i am getting him for either birthday or christmas are:
legos that have cards to show you how to make structures, and the legos that you read the book and put the things together, a keyboard with turntable (he loves twist from fresh beat band), a big helicopter toy from Costco, a batman toy...ummm and my parents are buying him the leap pad2... its really expensive... i hope he likes it... and doesn't break it quickly...
when he was 1 his favorite toys were his melissa and doug stacking blocks and his toy vacuum. At 2 he loved the yo gabba gabba boombox that does nothing except open and play music.
We got the FP Little People Nativity set last year for Christmas and I am SOO SOO excited to pull it out the day after T-giving this year!
If Brinley likes imaginative play, what about a tent or something. I got something like this for the kids I babysat years ago and it was so much fun!
Yeah, he got just a regular pop up tent for his bday last year...but that pirate ship looks much cooler!

I have started making a list for EJ already, which is way unusual for me. But I know people are going to start asking. So far this is what I have
Wizard of Oz and Cinderella DVDs
Leap Pad games, carrying case
Lego Friends sets (yes, girly legos. But if it means she will continue building I will encourage that)
Checkers board
Like Lanna, she would like a number of things she sees on TV like those Stompy slippers and a pink puppy cuddleuppet.
maybe I will put those items on Aunt Julie's shopping list. She was the one who thought she needed a pillow pet. Seems right up her alley.
My MIL found a set of "Loving Family" dolls and a house at a yard sale for like $5 so we gave that to EJ last Christmas and she really enjoys playing with it. She isn't so much into Barbies yet though. She has some of the barbie sized princess dolls and while they get some play time, the smaller doll house people get more play. And perhaps it is just because of all the accessories- not sure. But if you are not ready to plunge into the big house, that could be a smaller option. Plus a good thing to put on others lists to accessorize for her!
I never really understood why people were so up in arms over the "girly" legos. I love that my little girls interests run the gamut from super girly with rainbow sparkles to not at all girly with dirt and mud.
Brinley wants stompeez too. And I think they're going on the list for the same aunt who bought her a pillow pet :-)
ive done it every year. I have all of the Disney Princesses. Target and Walmart will get to 75-90% where I get most of them.
We bought this with gift cards for our daughters first birthday and it was totally worth it. It's 9 months later and she's still getting tons of enjoyment out of it. Worth every penny.
