So I have the in-laws coming over Christmas day for gifts and of course Christmas dinner. We need to get our carpets cleaned. The prices for hiring someone to do it are so stupid and would never, ever be worth it, especially because the entire house is carpeted (the previous owner had it that way and we haven't had a chance to put tile in the rooms we believe need to have tile).
What I am curious is if there is a way to use a natural stain removal "shampoo" in place of the stuff those Rug Doctors come with. You know, use something that is known to work to pull dirt and pet stains and stuff instead of the normal stuff. I tried getting some up with baking soda and vinegar and water but it didn't do anything. I think these stains are pretty old. The carpet did need cleaning when we bought the house but we didn't have the money at that time to do it. So...what else can be used in place of that shampoo stuff to get the stains out, clean the carpet, etc.?
