Work from Home

Does anyone work from home? Just been offered a position working from home, more money, better benefits and I will get to do some local travel on somedays through out the week, Any pros or cons? I just don't want to to hate it. I want it to be a good experience especially since I am leaving a large, corporate company.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Work from Home

  • hi! what is it that you do?
  • I work from the office and from home.  Home has it's huge benefits but I wouldn't be able to do it full time.  I go stir crazy sitting by myself all day.  It's really hard to not communicate with ANYONE all day.  It's also hard to focus and not get side tracked by dishes, the gym and house stuff.

  • I don't have the experience working from home, but i would say if you are getting offered more money etc than go for it.

its my DREAM to work from home.  I've applied to every job ever to do this, and have contemplated starting my own business just so I can.

You can not beat the flexibility etc.

Since you are going out and about a few days a week- i think you should be ok.

  • I do both, but I will say - working from home requires a good deal more discipline to do over long periods of time. I find that being in an office, puts my head in the right perspective to get stuff done. I've had to work from home for extended periods (2 weeks to 2 months) after a company move and after Sandy - if you have kids, regardless of whether you are "working" or not - Mom's home. Same goes for pets... sometimes I'd rather put on the TV and watch Law & Order marathon than actually be productive.

With that said, if you are disciplined/busy enough to do it - you can be MORE productive at home. I find that working from home, i'm logged in a little earlier, and probably a little later than I would be at the office. And its a plus to be able to run an errand at lunch or work in your PJ's for sure.

Long & Short - it depends on what kind of personal motovation you have (not that one is better or worse...)

  • I work from home as medical biller. I did a medical billing course from reputed school.
  • I work from home 3 days a aweek and I love it but i agree with the other poster about not wanting to do it full time.  I need those two days in the office to chit chat and socialize.  I would see if that's an option.

If not, find ways to connect with your coworkers. Although we work, we're still very connected though IM and other internal sites (we have an internal facebook-eque site designed to keep us in touch with each other).

It does require discipline but it makes things so much easier! I hope you like it.
