Hospital/OB Rec.

I live in Warminster, and delivered my first at Abington. I was less then pleased with them. I'm also less then pleased with my OB office, so it's time for a change. We have been TTC for about 9 months now, and have had two losses very early on (4.5 weeks and 5 weeks). I'm looking for a new OB office that is affiliated with a different hospital then Abington. I know of Doylestown and St. Mary's. Did anyone deliver at one of the two and have a great experience with both the hospital and practice?

Re: Hospital/OB Rec.

  • I go to Womencare of Montgomery County, specifically Dr. Borthwick-Scelzi. I delivered at Holy Redeemer and loved my experience there. Sorry to hear about your losses.
  • I know this is going to sound weird, but how was the food? At abington, they had NOTHING to chose from, and at very specific times. Their response was "it's the weekend". I had to order out for almost all of my meals because they had such few options, and it was such a short window to order by. At SIL's hospital she got a whole huge menu and was able to pick whatever she wanted. I got two options.

Ha!  I wish I could tell you for certain. I had GD so I was put on a restricted diet until my blood sugar numbers went down (which was pretty much the day I left) but I think it was a pretty decent menu.  I remember being allowed a burger and fries and grilled cheese and things like that.  I'm told that their chicken salad (random) is quite good.

  • I am sorry for your losses.

It's ironic that you post this, in that I had just mentioned to DH yesterday that since my job is moving in March a few blocks from Holy Redeemer, it may make sense for me to switch my care up there if we decide to have #2.

Although you are in Warminster, for your TTC issues, I do highly recommend Dr. Huppert down at PA Hospital.  I loved, loved, loved her.

  • Sorry for your losses.

I'm of absolutely no help because I loved both of my experiences at Abington and I'd have another baby there in a heartbeat.

Me too.  I had a great experience with Abington.  I also find the food comment odd because there was a huge page of menu choices and you could pick as much or as little as you wanted.

Ditto the food stuff. And actually, my husband would go down with my son and they would bring all kinds of food back up to my room. We also ate in the cafeteria the day I had my 20 week ultrasound and I didn't think it was bad at all. I thought it was pretty good for a hospital cafeteria, actually.

This is so weird and makes no sense to me. They had tons of options when I was there both times and like I said above, DH and DS would go down and bring up all kinds of food.  You have to remember, it's a hospital. Not a 5 star dining experience. I also packed myself lots of snacks. For the few days you are actually in there, I didn't think it was that bad at all.

  • How the eff do y'all remember the food?! I just remember being annoyed by how fast my hosp took away the tray.

I was in the hosp for 4 days and don't remember one meal. Guess the meds were way better then the food...

  • I don't remember the actual food (besides the really good hummus/veggie platter) but I know that I was surprised that there were so many choices and that the food was pretty decent for hospital food.

I also was admitted on a Saturday morning and didn't get to eat anything until Monday morning so I was delighted at all the food choices.

  • Well, my food at Pennsy was actually pretty good -- I had a huge array of choices and 24 hour room service.  And it was a private chef.

I also paid $400 a night for the service, so.........

Fun fact, I actually ate in the Abington cafeteria a few weeks ago when i went to the breast feeding supply store there for pump tubing.  It was good for hospital cafeteria.  It was no CHOP, but the CHOP cafeteria is like the gold standard of hospital cafeterias in my book.

  • What the heck! I was there saturday and sunday, released sunday afternoon. The only thing I got was this little piece of paper, with two choices on it. my parents even went down to the cafeteria and said that most stations were completely closed (lunch and dinner time) and the only thing really available was the lunchmeat counter, and one other thing. I just remember being so hungry, and it not being the "time" to contact for food, and even when my parents went down, there was not much other then sandwiches. And like I said, when my mom complained they said it was because it was the weekend, and there were more choices during the week day. This was a year ago. Crazy you all had a different experience.

I know it's not a 5 star dining experience, but I also have been in the hospitals my siblings have delivered in, and they were given quite a bit of food options. I was really disappointed that I had such few things to chose from. I had eaten at the cafeteria before and been pleased.

  • I remember BM had a snack room. All the drinks, ice cream and crackers your heart wanted.

Menu wasn't terrible either. We did have to supplement with take out.

yup. i am delivering at the new einstein in montco. they have a really good vbac rate. i found a set of midwives that do vbacs and also have really good rate they speak highly of the staff at montco. i'm hoping we can swing a doula? but we shall see.

the new hospital also has some pretty spiffy looking rooms: perspectives_obstetrics-spotlight.png

  • I have heard good things about St Mary's and Holy Redeemer, but Abington definitely seems to get the best reviews in that area. If it was just the food and your specific OB, I would just ask the girls on here who delivered there to rec their practice

The biggest issues I had were with the nurses. The one's in the delivery room were awesome, but soon after that, and for the next two days, I hated them. I don't know how much of it was hormonal, how much of it was the bitchy nurses, how much of it was andrew's 1 testicle and there were a ton of people constantly bothering us because of that, or if it was a mix of everything. But as we were being discharged, my mom had to take one of the nurses out of the room because I was so upset. I just wanted to get out of there. At this point, going back there, even if it's perfect, probably isn't the best because of my previous experience. I wasn't pleased with the nurses/my OB practice/or the food. Time for a clean slate.

  • I hear you, I have always said the nurses can really make or break your experience.  Mine were awesome both times, but I delivered in a city hospital.

I was born at Holy Redeemer (lol) and my aunt worked there for years.  She always spoke very highly of the other nurses and the care.  A former nestie who I am FB friends with delivered both her kids at St. Mary's and had nothing but good things to say about her experience.  GL!

I am really sorry to hear all of this.  While I can't speak to the food at Holy Redeemer specifically, I can attest to the nursing staff.  They were, in a word, fantastic.  The delivery room nurse I had was maybe one of my most favorite people I've ever encountered in my life.  She was so patient and just kind.

The day nurses and night nurses were fantastic.  They had to bug me a lot to give me shots and check my sugars but they were so nice and honestly, fun, that it wasn't much of a bother.

I wish you well in whatever choice you make.  It's such an important thing that you have to do whatever makes you comfortable.

  • i delivered my son at st. mary's in july 2011. i have nothing but good things to say about the hospital and the staff. the food was good too. :) plenty to pick from. the nurses were super attentive and helpful. my practice is women's health associates of bucks county. there are 4 drs in the practice- 3 male and 1 female. they're all great.

i also delivered at lower bucks hospital with my daughter 5 yrs ago. i had a good experience there too. i only switched bc st mary's is closer to my home.

    good luck with your decision!

  • Is East Norriton too far? I went to Amer's OB for my annual and had a really great experience with them. They deliver at the new Einstein Hospital which, like pp said is brand new and beautiful (and walking distance to my house, lol). We went on a tour there before it opened.

  • Ugh...I had a whole post written but it was deleted but anyways....

I delivered at Doylestown through Doylestown Women's Health. I was not at all happy with them during my pregnancy but it was more due to the aloof attitudes of the doctors and the horrible staffing they have. I had severe problems after her birth and was misdiagnosed by one of the doctor's which lead me to being hospitalized for a week. Even though I had this issues, I returned this year when we began TTC and did become pregnant but miscarried at 13 weeks. The doctor that dealt with that was absolutely horrible, I mean horrible to me, to the point I will not be returning there. So I would not recommend them at all.

However, my experience with Doylestown Hospital was fantastic, fan.tast.ic. Since her birth, I unforunately have been hospitalized 3 more times and each time I my experience was amazing! Also, the food, is really, really good and so good that I will go there on my lunch break just for their poundcake, yes, it is really very good. Lastly, the problem with Doylestown is that only 2 practices practice there; Doylestown Women's Health and Dr. Diestein (sp???). I have heard wonderful things about the other doctor was it is just him and a PA I believe but they might be worth a shot especially since Doylestown is your closest hospital.

I am sorry about your struggles and wish you all the best in the future.
