merry married christmas

this is the first year I've attended my husband's extended family christmas meal.  for the past 4 years I've avoided every christmas festivity with them (besides his parents).  this year his grandma is hosting at her house and we are the closest relatives geographically so we are obligated/expected to be there.  it's just his dad's side of the family which total maybe 15 people.

i'm not 100% looking forward to it because i feel kind of awkward around them.  plus i just don't know what to expect!  it's on SAturday so wish me luck!

Re: merry married christmas

  • Good luck! It's tough doing these things differently and new this year! This is my first Christmas Day and Christmas Eve with DH and his family. It'll be weird and kind of sad to not be with my parents for it, but we'll see them between Christmas and New Year's.

  • I am sure it will be fine.  When I am in a situation like that I am glued to DH's side until I feel more comfortable then I might wander a little.  I don't mind things with DH's family though but DH dreads things with my family, especially my father.

  • Is there any certain reason why you've avoided these get togethers?

  • i avoided these dinners in the past because they were on christmas day and i spent it with my own family.
