So next sept 21 we will be having out first anniversary and I want to surprise my husband . I know it's a little early but I am a person that likes to plan ahead. I don't want to go crazy with money since we are looking for a house but I deff want to take a trip somewhere. We live in the capital region in NY. I don't want to drive to far and I don't want to take a plane either. We have been to Boston for the aquarium and whale watching, we have been to Burlington and Manchester vt. I want to find something he would enjoy where there is other stuff to do besides shopping. Also since we are going in September, I don't want to go somewhere that is only fun in summertime. Can you all help me with ideas? One idea I do have is go to Niagra falls on the Canadian side. We have never been there but I'm not sure if it would be as fun in September...thank you!!
Re: First anniversary
DH and I went to Niagara Falls in the middle of October in 2011 and we had a blast. I would never go back during the summer again. When we went, everything was still open, but the crowds were gone. We didn't wait in line for anything! The weekend that we went, we thought it was too cold to do the maid of the mist/cave of the winds- but all of that stuff was still open and there were plenty of others still doing it. I honestly think that September would be the perfect time to go.
How long are you planning to go away for? We felt that we pretty thoroughly explored both sides and only spent 2 nights there. You could also include Niagara on the Lake if you want to extend your trip.
If you're interested, we stayed in the Country Inn and Suites - Niagara Falls, ON and we were VERY happy with it. Since we were there near the end of the season, we paid around $90-$100/nt (and free parking) for a jacuzzi suite. The location was good, the price was right, and our room was very clean.
Another suggestion would be Philadelphia. I've never been, but it's someplace that I want to go to. There is a lot of history there and definitely plenty to see and do!
