Bathroom Ceiling

The hard water from my shower is leaving "rust" like stains on my ceiling of the bathroom. I can clean them off easily with clorox wipes but they reappear once someone takes a shower. Is there a way to prevent this? If so, how? Thanks!

Re: Bathroom Ceiling

  • Sounds like mold. Clean the area well with bleach solution then paint with Kilz primer and follow with a good bathroom paint to block moisture. Keep the door open and run your exhaust fan after getting out of the shower to help clear the moisture. Also, if there's another bath above this one you should check it for leaks to make sure the moisture isn't coming from above.

  • Thank you! I will give it a try! Hope it works! I know its not from another bathroom because it is the only one we have. Thank you again

  • I had this happen in a bathroom in a cheap apartment too!

The walls and ceiling were this yucky laminated board stuff, and it wasn't attached very well so the low spots would get bad almost soap scummy looking spots on it where the condensation would gather... even with the exhaust fan on and door always open if we weren't using the bathroom.

I just used a terry cloth mop with clorox sprayed on it and wiped down the ceiling and walls once a week, and lived with it for 6 months. Good thing it was a small bathroom.
