Marriage certificate..FINALLY!
After being lazy for a couple of months, I finally went to pick up our official marriage certificate so I can start changing my name! In CA, you have to wait about 3 weeks after your wedding to get your certificate so you can start the name change process. Kind of a pain. I have just been lazy and putting it off. Also, the place to pick it up is only open on weekdays 9-4, and I'm at work during that time so I don't want to take time off to do that. My company gave us this whole week off so I went today to go get the certificate.

So excited my name is going to legally change soon...not just on facebook. haha.
Married since October 14, 2012 - Best Day Ever!
Re: Marriage certificate..FINALLY!
Wow! We got our certificate in the mail 5 days after the wedding. My old last name was one I was excited to get rid of so I went to the social security office and DMV the next day! Changing my name everywhere else has been a little slower.
At least the 3 weeks gives you a chance to get used to your new name. It still takes me a little while to respond to my new name at work.
We got our marriage certificate like a week after the wedding too! I'm not changing my name, but I did need it to deposit some of our wedding checks. Most of our guests assumed (incorrectly) that my name would change and they made checks out to Nic Husband'sLastName or to Mr. and Mrs. Husband. The bank needed the marriage certificate as proof that I really was the person the checks were made out to!
PSA: ALWAYS make the check out to just the groom, or just the bride with her maiden name. Even if she's changing it, no one changes their name that quickly! It was a huge mess at the bank for us!
