Growth Scan

I had my 32 week appointment today.  I did not see my regular doc, but a NP.  She told me she thinks the baby is measuring small, and wants me to go for a growth scan.  I am freaking out about this.  I feel the baby move all the time.  I am overall a petite person- only 4'11" tall and my normal weight is very light.  Should I be worrying?

Re: Growth Scan

  • You are a tiny person you probably just have tiny babies.
  • I had monthly growth scans to make sure my kid wasn't too big.  I tried to look at it as yay! extra ultrasounds!

I agree with pp, that it's probably because you're tiny yourself.

  • I wouldn't worry too much if you are tiny to begin with. I will keep my fingers crossed for you though!

  • I wouldn't worry as it seems like the scan is becoming fairly common now.

I had to go for a growth scan because they said that J was measuring small.  He came out at a perfectly healthy 7lbs 3oz.

  • I had growth scans starting at 28 (or maybe 30-32 weeks) with DS.  I don't really remember when everything started.  I was high risk for a few reasons but the growth scans weren't really a big deal at all.  A lot of times, now especially, the OBs are overly cautious and are willing to do more scans and monitoring just to be sure.

DS never measured above the 50% in utero and my doc basically laughed and asked if we expected him to be bigger.  DH and I are both not towering giants so having a big kid would have been more of an anomaly than having a small kid.

I hope it all goes well for you.

  • Hope everything turns out OK and it is just the dr being cautious. I find everything about being pregnant scary!

A million times agree. We go for an ultrasound tomorrow strictly to measure their growth (we go once a month) and every week leading up to them I start freaking out, eventhough I can feel them both moving all the time. There are way too many damn things to worry about!

I'm sure you'll be fine!! Try not to worry about it :)
