What are you reading?

Does anyone have any good book suggestions of books you've read or books you would like to read?

I just started Gone Girl, but want to get a reading list going so I can keep the momentum going!

Re: What are you reading?

  • I just downloaded Gone Girl today and can't put it down (sssh - it's a slow day at work!)

I started Les Mis by Victor Hugo but am having a hard time getting into it. I never saw the musical, but want to see the movie and know the gist of it. I can't see how this is going to get started....

I fished "The Secret Language of Flowers" which was very good too and I'd recommend that!

  • Well, I am also reading Gone Girl.

I just read Silver Lining Playbook, it was good. Quick read and after talking to my boss, not a whole lot like the movie.

  • I read a lot over Christmas.  I read 2 new James Patterson books (he's one of my favorites) "Merry Christmas Alex Cross" and "NYPD Red".   I also read 2 cheesy Debbie Macomber Christmas books.

I just started "Low Pressure" by Sandra Brown.  And I have a new one by Joy Fielding "Shadow Creek" on deck to read next.

OH!  And to all the Kindle people, I got one for Xmas. YAY!   I haven't read anything on it yet, because I had a bunch of library books to read and I didn't want to dump them because it was all stuff I wanted to read.  But, as soon as those 2 above are out of the way, it's next in line.

  • I just did a blog post with all of the books I've read this year, and linked to my friend's blog (she has a bunch of extensive book reviews and ratings from the past year on her blog, much more than mine!)

I'm reading the Fever series (i'm on book 4 of 5), and I'm into it, although it's really, really strange.  It's nothing I'd normally be into, but it sucked me in enough at the beginning that I want to finish the whole thing now.

I also really liked Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter.  Courtney Sullivan wrote 2 books I enjoyed, Commencement and Maine...they were both good, if I had to pick one, I liked Commencement better.

  • Just started Hunger Games. I'm on the cutting edge of new and upcoming books as you can tell. Like, have you ever heard of the Twilight series, or Fifty Shades of Grey ;)
  • No, Emmy, I haven't done anything except set it up and download a book on to it that I had gotten for free when I intended to read one on the kindle app for my iPad and never did.

Oh, I forgot a few that I read recently that I liked - Beth Kendrick.  I read The Lucky Dog Matchmaking Service and The Bake Off.  Both were good and mindless chick lit.

I'm reading the Hunger Games Trilogy now!  I just finished Catching Fire and can't wait to start Mockingjay.

Not sure what I'll read after that. Trying to find some pregancy books to read.  I found What to Expect When You're Expecting on the Kindle and it's only $4, so I may buy and read that soon.

  • I thought Gone Girl was so good/effed up.  Probably my favorite book of last year.  I also liked Sharp Objects by the same author.  I also really liked Low Pressure.

I just finished the Inn at Boonsboro trilogy (Nora Roberts) on vacation.  I loved it, typical NR fare, always winner for me.

I also just finished book #2 in the CrossFire series (50 Shades-esque but written much better and more likeable).

Currently reading A Discovery of Witches - I am almost done with it... it's like a Harry Potter / Twilight mash up for adults.  a little too long though.  It's good... good enough that I checked out the second book in the series.

a "new to me" author i just discovered is Lisa Kleypas - she's really good!

i totally was sucked into the Fever series.  It is so, so bizarre / weird, but so good. love me some barrons!  I also loved Commencement.  I thought Maine was kinda blah.

There are some parts in these books that I literally gag when I read it, no lie.  So you know I think it's good if I'm willing to tolerate that to keep on reading and find out what happens!!  Ick!  And yes, Maine was definitely not as good, especially since I had read Commencement first, I had high expectations for Maine.

  • Gone Girl is really good, but thought the end was drawn out. .I'll be curious to hear your opinions.

I've read Notorious Nineteen by Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum Series), I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella (she's one of my favorites), and Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. I just started the first book in the Pretty Little Liars Series.

How did you feel about this book?  I just read the  Overview and it sounds really interesting but I'm not sure if it's my cup of tea.  I've been stuck on "Catching Fire" for a few months.  I can't remember the last time I turned on my Nook!  No desire to finish the series. :(

i loved it but I work in clinical trials research so it's right up my alley. However I read it with my book club at the time and the 3 other women all enjoyed it and don't work in research like I do. For me the subject matter was interesting to begin with but I thought the book was good regardless. At first it seems like it might be a bit too educational but they really bring in the personal story of Henrietta and her family and I found that intriguing. I'm sure it may not be everyone's cup of tea though. Maybe try from the library and read a little to see? Or with the nook you could download the sample for free first.

I started Les mis too. I can't get into it either. I did see the musical when I was14 on broadway with my high school choir.  I also downloaded Anna Karinina but I don't think I'll hold much hope for getting into it either.

I re-read the Hunger Games series and read Ender's Games (at my sister's request) last month. The next book my sister wants me to read is Maximum Ride.

  • I finished Gone Girl a week or so ago and really liked it.

I'm reading an older Sandra Brown book right now (I forget the title.. just started it today).

My SIL and I were talking books over Christmas and she said Unbroken by Laura Hillenbran was the best book she read last year.
