Nails

I always have my dd's nails painted but I rarely do on my own! Mostly because they always peel after a day! How many of you have your nails painted and what's the trick?

Re: Nails

  • I love painting my nails!  I don't really have any tricks, but it doesn't really bother me that the polish is usually chipped after 2 or 3 days, because I have a short attention span and by then, I'm sick of seeing the color on my nails. Stick out tongue  so, I take it off, then leave them natural for a few days, then move to a different color.  rinse, repeat.

Right now, I have on Essie's Mink Muffs:

  • Ditto Emmy.  When I was single and care free, I got a manicure every week.  And it usually lasted almost the whole week.  Back then I wasn't bathing children and cleaning up messes and doing dishes, keeping your hands out of water is key!  (So maybe use rubber gloves around the kitchen or when cleaning).

And while it's not great for your nails, when I do want the color to last (like when I went on vacation last year) I get a gel manicure.  It really does last 2-3 weeks and looks great the entire time.  I LOVE it.

  • Stop bathing your kids and doing dishing if you want it to last Stick out tongue.  I used to paint my nails all the time but I'm just getting back into it.  I really like Essie Chinchilly.

  • i get a gel mani (shellac) every 2-3 weeks.  it's impressive how long it lasts, and your nails really get long because the polish prevents them from breaking.

  • Oh man seeing the Essie colors you ladies posted, I may need to move from the 4.5 yo colors to some of those for myself!!

So what exactly is the gel mani? Is it like the old school fake nails or just something over my regular nails? See how long its been?:)

Thanks! I think I got motivation to do my nails again:)

no - it's just a special polish and they "set" with a UV light for a few minutes.  OPI, Gellish, etc has the "gel" colors.  Pretty much all of the walk in places do gel now.  my

Your nails look and feel the same as if you've had them  painted with regular polish.  They are just stronger and don't break as much b/c the polish hardens them for lack of a better word.  They soak off with acetone in about 5 - 10 minutes. There is minimal damage to your nail (nothing like acrylic).

  • Essie's Carry On is my other favorite fall/winter shade for my fingers:

  • I paint EJs nails more often than I do my own. I tend to do my toes every month, but not my fingers for the same reasons you listed.

Can I just give a blanket "ditto" to everything Amanda writes today? Just replace EJ with "Heather &Todd".

  • I am an OPI fan myself. My favorite colors currently are from the James Bond Collection.

  • I recently started doing the gel polish and love it.  I'm in the midst of interviewing for jobs so I like that I don't have to worry about it chipping at the last minute.  I do a very light color because you can't see it grow out as easily and since it doesn't chip it lasts longer.  I also like that it only takes 30 min vs. back when I was single I'd get the acrylics done which took and hour.  There's no drying time so you can go shopping or run errands right away.

I've also heard of a regular polish brand called Zoya that's supposed to last longer than OPI and Essie.  Some people swear by it but I haven't tried it.

  • I rarely paint my fingernails. Just seems like too much work for how little it stays on.  I did get a fall color in Essie I really liked and loved how it looked on my fingernails! I just have only done it a couple times. I usually paint my toenails though.  It lasts so much longer on them.

Zoya has a Facebook deal right now. You can get 3 polishes "free" but it's $10 processing/shipping. but $10 for 3 polishes that are normaly $8/each is a good deal.  I've never tried them but have heard good things, and they have SO many colors to choose from.  I'm ordering 3 with the deal (use promo code ZOYA2013; I'm not sure exactly when it expires.)

  • Zoya nailpolish is nice.  They did this deal once before and I got a few free bottles (and paid shipping).  It seems like it dries quickly, which I like.
