WIC appointment. Wish me luck

I have an appointment for WIC today. It's a program that helps with low-income pregnant woman and the baby once they are born. If I get approved, a few of our groceries (milk, bread, etc) will be at a lower cost. I feel sooooo terrible that I have to do a program like this but with DH and I not getting hired for a teaching job we are making VERY little. It's not like we aren't trying despertely for jobs. I'm kinda nervous about going into this appointment. I never in a million years would I have thought that with 2 Bachelors degree and a masters and a husband with 2 degrees that I would be faced with needing assistance. It's really sad.

You have to remember that your situation is the reason that these programs are out there. It isn't like you aren't trying everything possible to get a job. It is just there are so many people out there taking advantage of these programs these days that they get a bad rap. If all of the people that were just using the programs were taken off, I am sure that we could save a lot of money.

Thanks ladies. You're right it's the ones who abuse the system that give programs like this a bad name. I felt soooooo out of place in that office. It was in the ghetto and I felt nervous to be holding my Coach purse. In the end, I got checks that will pay for milk, bread, eggs, peanut butter, cheese, and cereal. This will help us.

I'm glad you got some assistance! You are not abusing the system but any means. In fact, it takes an awful lot of courage to step up and say that you need help. Times are tough all over. I hope you and your DH can find teaching jobs though!

I used this program when I had my daughter. That was 6 years ago but it was amazing. I was able to get her the nutrition she deserved and I could use that money for other things to help us get on our feet. You'll love it!
