Maiden name annoyances

So we've all been married for a year and 3 months, right?  Is anyone else not able to get your friends/family to remember to use your married name??

I've had clients and coworkers use my maiden name recently (like putting me on an attendance list under it) and the worst offender was my sister-in-law (bro's wife) who wrote me a check to my maiden name!

Please tell me I'm not the only one that runs into this!

Re: Maiden name annoyances

  • Most people at my work have caught on because now a lot of them call me "KK".  One girl still calls me just by my last name, when other people correct her, she just says she's refusing to recognize my new last name...

My grandma wrote me out a check for Christmas, and told me she spelled my last name wrong (with a C not K).  She felt so bad and even started to cry!  Poor thing!

  • I haven't had much of an issue since I moved so far away and nobody here knows my maiden name and the un-married me :P It's a little amusing because all the kids call everyone "Miss" whether you're married or not so everyone at school knows me as "Miss E". Since I look like a baby, some of the other staff didn't know I was married until I brought H to the Christmas party.

I have a few friends that I've always called by their last name.  Even though they're married now, that will always be their name to me!

  • I have the exact opposite issue since I decided not to change my name. My MIL refuses to respect my decision and went so far as to tell me that's why you get married. I thought I married her son for many reasons, one being that I love him, and not just because I would want to change my name...

  • I haven't had too much of an issue with it. My current job I wasn't at before we got married, so they only know me by my married name. Once or twice my brother has accidentally called me by my maiden name. DH has done it, too. But for the most part, everyone gets it right.

  • Not many issues here.  I work with a friend who I've known all of my life and she told me the other day that she sometimes almost refers to me by my maiden name when she's talking to one of my customers.

Our new receptionist was entering old training records and was confused because they're so old that it lists my maiden name.  She called me to confirm it was me.  LoL.

My shower invites just went out, though, and I fear some people won't recognize my married name on the invite!

  • I haven't had any issues.  Everything at my office has been switched over.  Stinks you're having so many issues with it!  I know names become habit, but after a year, you would think people would know your name!

  • Whenever I get mail in my maiden name, I know it's junk mail :P
  • My boss still calls me by my maiden name and is fully aware. It honestly doesn't bother me. Full disclosure: I still have to change over my SS and drivers license.

My close friends have always called me by my last name, and a lot of them still do, but I don't really care, it's more of a nickname thing than a "I refuse to recognize the other name". I have a few friends that are the same way. Other than that my dad still struggles when he writes out my name. He still writes my maiden name on everything. Other than him, I haven't really had any issues.

  • I haven't had any problems myself, although I don't think it would really bother me if someone called me by my maiden name.
  • I have had no issues at all. My issue is with my married name. People still can't spell or say it correctly. It's such a simple name and H has never had issues in his 28 years. I guess it's a me thing.
  • I've always had issues with my names! Before I got married my first, middle, and last name all sounded like a first name so people always either called me by my last name or got my first name wrong entirely. As for my married name, I have had a bit of an issue, but it's more of an annoyance than anything. My brother has written me a couple of large checks with my maiden name on them to pay me back from a loan, which would've been an issue had I not known the lady at the bank very, very well!
  • I tend to sign my name with my maiden name sometimes, it might be because it's easier for me to sign with an S then a W and then I just scribble the rest.

I believe I got a  jury duty letter sent to my brothers house (I haven't used his address in years) with my maiden name. Do I have to go?

This exactly! :) Except I have no MIL that will refuse to accept my decision. My dad sometimes can be the bad one though! haa
