DH and I are taking a cruise next month with ports in Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Maarten.
We're trying to keep OOP expenses to a minimum... so any suggestions on what to do and where to go on the cheap?
Honestly, we'd just like a nice beach, some chairs and towels and a sandwich and alcohol- no frills...
How do we get to/from the beach and how much should we expect to spend in each port?
TIA!
Re: *CRUISERS- come in!!*
How long are you at port at st Thomas?
I have only been to Nassau out of those 3 ports. We went to Junkanoo Beach which is about a 15 minute walk from the pier. It is past Senor Frogs and the Hilton. There are places to rent chairs, get food & drinks& bathrooms (although I didn't use them). It was nice because you could see all of the ships in port. It certainly isn't the best beach but it is nice & easy to get to.
In St. Maarten, there is a beach right when you get off of the ship, however, it's not the nicest beach. There are some really gorgeous beaches on the island, so I would take a cab and go elsewhere.

Dawn and Orient Beaches are beautiful. Also, Maho Bay is fun because the planes fly ridiculously close as they approach the airport. My in-laws go to Pinel Island from the cruises they take to St. Maarten and say that it is beautiful, but I don't know what it entails to get there.
7am to 5pm i think
Here's my write-up on St. Thomas when we were there in May:
St. Thomas - Sapphire Beach
Hopped a cab (JR AKA the "Road Runner" was our driver - he was great) and rode out to Sapphire Beach - about 30 minutes or so. Cost is $10pp one-way. We took our snorkeling gear with us, rented a chaise ($7), and ordered a burger and fries from Banana Cabana. We had a great time snorkeling! Saw the sea turtles that live in the grass on the left side of the beach and also a very large spotted ray. Overall, highly recommend Sapphire Beach. We ended our day with a short trip to see other parts of the island on our way back to the ship.
Nassau we did a city tour, but can't remember the operator's name. It was nice, but next time we will probably snorkel.
St. Thomas we took a cab (a/k/a open air bus/truck) to Megan's Bay Beach. It is at a national park so there was a small fee to get in, but it was beautiful. There was a restaurant and chair rentals. One of my favorite days.
Never been to St. Maarten, but I hear Maho Beach (near the airport where the plans fly over) is nice.
Have fun!
