I'm planning to go to the south rim end of April/beginning of May. Any recs? Specifically of where to stay?
I was planning on only being there for around 26 hours. (Arriving at noon one day and leaving early afternoon the next day) Is this too short? Money is a big factor, but obviously it's a wonderful opportunity and I don't think I'll be back for at least 15-20 years.

Our wedding on Wilson Island!
Unless you are planning to do any hiking in the canyon, you really only need a few hours. There's a nice paved rim trail that you can walk down and get pictures from different vantage points, but other than that, there's not much to do, so the time you have planned definitely isn't too short.
We spent two full days and didn't do any real hiking...and, I wish we had stayed even longer!! You can walk for hours, stop for photos, rent bikes, do a few of the tours (sunset tour was awesome) and even take the ride into the canyon....you need a full day for that though.
One day is fine...you'll see the canyon and it's simply amazing to see. As for where to stay, the lodges at the canyon fill up 6+ months in advance but there's usually some room at Yavapai Lodge...we stayed there. Very out in the woods, rustic and no frills but reasonably priced and a great location (no canyon view though). We'd walk out to elk every morning. Breakfast at El Tovar is excellent and reservations usually are not required for breakfast.
Have a wonderful trip!
Detailed review with plenty of pictures in Blog link below, also if you can, make time to visit Sedona, you will not be disappointed!;)

This was wonderful, thanks. And Yavapai Lodge was the one I was already looking into, so this is great. Thank you!
