How long does it take your child to fall asleep?
I read this article in Parents magazine about how small children can actually have insomnia. I felt like the article was written about my 3 year old. One one the criteria is taking longer than 30 minutes to fall asleep more than 3 times a week. On a good night it takes dd an hour to go to sleep, on a bad night it can take her 2 hours. And then she's up 2-3 times a night.
How long does it take your kids to fall asleep?
It's been going on for a long time but has recently gotten worse. I'm thinking about making a pedi appointment to rule out any physical problems and hopefully get some suggestions. But what do I say? My kid doesn't sleep?
Re: How long does it take your child to fall asleep?
Wes is between 5-15 min, but he's still rocking/nursing.
Lanna ranges too. Some nights she's out when I check on her after putting Wes down. Others she is still downstairs bugging at 10:30! She sleeps really soundly after she goes to sleep though, whereas Wes still wakes at night several nights a week.
Not exactly sure, because I don't stay with him until he falls asleep, and I don't check on him.
He will go through phases when he will call out to us up to an hour after he lays down. Usually we tell him that we are not going up there again, we don't hear from him. He is 3 3/4.
There's no harm in asking the pedi about it!
DD used to go to sleep very easily. Until we took the binky away at just past 3 years. Now it takes forever! I don't think it's insomnia--because she sleeps really well once she is asleep.
It is just very difficult for her to shut her mind off at night. She calls for us a lot, and if we go up, she just talks non-stop about all these "ideas" she has and plans.
We start bedtime between 7:45 and 8:00 and she's rarely asleep before 9:30. She reads, and sings and talks and plays and when she feels ready she usually calls for me to tuck her in, again.
ETA: I think the binky helped her get to that calm, relaxed place, and we just haven't found a substitute yet.
