Sleep Apnea

So, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea this morning. I started having problems back in October, right before the wedding, with exhaustion. Ever since then, I get a full nights sleep and I typically nap on my lunch break, sometimes when I get home and I'm always, always exhausted. I finally did a sleep study Monday night, where they discovered I was stopping breathing. I went back last night and slept with the CPAP mask and it made a world of difference, so for now, I get to sleep that way! The only thing that sucks is H has been kind of sarcastic about it, isn't being too supportive. I think I finally got him to realize, though, it is a big deal.

I was just curious as to if any of you ladies have sleep apnea or anyone close to you does and your experiences with it!

Re: Sleep Apnea

  • My mom has it, but not so severe that she needs to sleep with the mask.  She had a sleep study at least 7 years ago.  It's been bothering her more lately so her ENT told her last week to have another one done.

I know hers bothers her more when she gains a little weight.  Maybe that might help you?

  • H thought he had it.  He ended up getting a major sinus surgery in 2010.  It helped some.  He got a sleep study done in 2011, and he didn't stop breathing enough for the mask.  But like PP said, he's is way better when he lost weight...

  • My H was diagnosed with sleep apnea last year due to his physiology (unaffected by weight) I was fine with him wearing a mask because it's quieter than his snoring, but he's still self-conscious about it and wears it like twice a week. He feels so much better everytime he wears it. Sure, it kills the mood, but it's so nice on those nights after a little lovin followed by a nice restful sleep :) I'm sure your H will get over it eventually. Just keep wearing it so he knows you're serious about your health.

  • I had a friend who had it and slept with the mask.  He finally went to a dr that said he should get his adeniods removed.  After he had that done, no more sleep apnea.
