Fabric Row?

Has anyone ever shopped for fabric on fabric row in Philly? I didn't even know this was a place/section. MIL offered to make curtains for the boys room since I hate everything I see. My sister suggested going down there. Just curious if its worth the trip. I dont want to pay more than $10-14 a yard and everything online is $18+. I thought maybe before I went to the city, I'd see if anyone knew if this was even a realistic price range for material that isn't so thin you can see through it.

Re: Fabric Row?

  • You can find really great fabrics there, do you know what type you want?

  • I honestly don't know if you'll pay cheaper then the Internet. But it's worth a shot.

Most of the stores are on 4th.

  • I got some selvedge pieces to make valances for $4/yd I can check with my costume designer friends. There is a place in norristown that sells fabric for cheap but it's a warehouse too, Starts with a J. It's near REI...anyone know the name?

    Jomar? http://www.jomarstores.com/

They have really great prices but the only one I've been to was in a really bad neighborhood. Don't go alone, don't go at night and maybe wash any purchases twice...

  • I thought they closed the Jomar in Norristown, but maybe I am mistaken?

  • Yup Jomar, yeah I went during the day, and was fine, there is another one.

  • Also random But Ikea has a small but fun fabric section.
  • Have you checked out JoAnn's?  I went to the one in Plymouth Meeting and they had a really good selection.  Couldn't hurt to check it out before hauling it down to the city.

  • The one I've been to was somewhere within Philly city limits, not Norristown. MIL is a quilter and she took me there when I was looking for fabric for drapes. I know she doesn't go to fabric row to look for a deal, usually she'll head out to Lancaster for bargain fabric or even Jo-Ann's armed with coupons.

Jump on their website and check for printable coupons.  They also accept competitors coupons.  Michaels has some good ones you can print off.

  • There is a jomar in south Philly, you could do both in a couple of hours if you come down to fabric row. Jomar is ghetto, not kidding, but there are amazing deals to be had. But if you're looking for fun, cute patterns you might want to stick to fabric row/ikea.

  • Thanks, everyone! I'm looking for something with grey and white stripes. Maybe chevron or just simple thick horizontal stripes. Nothing too crazy. I was going to go to JoAnns first just in case but figured if I couldn't find anything, would a trip to Philly be worth it? Sounds like thats a ... maybe?

You can make it worth it if you also go to 4th Street Deli for lunch...

Oh  dude I bought this exact thing for curtains in my house 8 per yard.  For a nursery I would do black out fabric lining the back.

Wow. Thats a great deal! Thanks :) My sister said the same thing about the black out fabric behind it. MIL could easily sew that and attach it.

It is a nice weight fabric too!  I see people double the price of this exact fabric on etsy all the time.

Perfect. Thanks! I'm going to scope both of those places out before I order anything though just to look but the fabric you sent is definitely my front runner. It'll go well with the crazy orange rug I bought!

  • There is or used to be a Jomar on Grant Avenue, just on the other side of the Blvd.
