Cribs

So we still don't have a crib for LO.  The ship has long sailed on ordering from an independent baby furniture store.  I did see a set I liked in an independent local shop, but my parents are paying for it and they didn't like the set, so we've been at a standstill ever since.

Long story short, I was now considering either the Graco Lauren or something from Ikea.  I like the Ikea ones because they are very low and I am very short, so it should be easy for me to get LO in and out of.  We may also be able to swing putting an Ikea crib in our bedroom in the beginning.

I like the look of some of the convertible cribs with the curved back, but we would never ever be able to fit a full sized bed in the nursery room in the future, so I know it would never get the full use.  This was part of the argument with my parents with the first set I liked.

Any thoughts good, bad or indifferent with regard to the Graco Lauren or something from Ikea?  Any other suggestions we should look at?  Also, with the Ikea cribs, what sort of crib mattress would you use?  TIA!

Re: Cribs

  • I have the Graco Lauren.  It's just great.  I mean, it's a crib :)  It worked just fine for us.  We've used it on all three levels.  It's very basic, but I wasn't looking for soemthing overly ornate.
  • Love our Ikea crib. We are using it with no. 2. We have taken it apart and put it back a dozen time. We have small hallways and moving etc. My only regret not buying an ikea mattress too.

We never converted to a toddler bed and took him straight to a floor bed. And then I bought a bare bones frame from ikea.

  • We are buying our boys IKEA cribs. I looked in Baby Bargains and on Consumer Reports and they got great ratings in both. I only need them to be toddler beds and after that I won't need them anymore so I didn't want a full coverting bed. Like you said, they're shorter and I'm 5'4" so I figure getting them in and out will be easier and love how simple they look.

Plus you can't beat the price. Like Letranger said though, I've read that buying an IKEA mattress is pretty key to the purchase so we'll be buying everything from there.

  • We just ordered a crib from Baby Supermart in Broomall (Baby's Dream 2000 something something model). The woman who helped us said that mattresses were standard sizes - so not sure if that is true for an Ikea crib or not. Anyways - not sure if Broomall is totally out of the way for you, but they were really knowledgable there and had a huge selection of mattresses and cribs (some you may be able to get before your due date), and the sales people weren't pushy or annoying at all.

  • Before I even got pg I was impressed by a crib and dresser I saw in Target on display.  It was a dark brown, but not espresso, and seemed really sturdy. The price was really good too

Turns out we decided to take DS' twin bed, convert it back to a crib and buy him Ikea bunk beds.  His cousin has bunk beds and he sleeps over there and LOVES them

I'll see if I can find a link online
