All Inclusive Cruises

Hi everyone, I don't generally post over here but DH just told me that he wants to take me on a vacation for my birthday next year (13 months away... its too short to plan for this year since we have a baby)... we don't know where we want to go but we know we want an all inclusive. We went to a Sandals in Jamaica for our honeymoon and had an excellent time.  We aren't sure if we want to do another Sandals or something else... and if we do something else we are thinking of an AI cruise (Royal Caribbean offers some now).  Has anyone done an AI cruise? If so, would you recommend that or do you think an AI resort is a better deal? Thanks!

Re: All Inclusive Cruises

  • AI resort is still cheaper than a cruise in my opinion. We've been to three Sandals and stayed in a concierge level room all three times(7nights). We've also cruised (same length of time as the AI resorts) and it cost us about $500 more. We were on Carnival and had a suite. Carnival is cheaper and smaller than Royal Caribbean.

My suggestion would be to do a detailed price comparison. Wether it be a spread sheet or old fashioned pen and paper.

Make sure to put every thing down. Flight prices, baggage fees, hotel room before and after if needed (we stay at a hotel next to the airport the night before since we always take a 6am flight and live an hr away from the airport),excursions, transportation wether it be from airport to resort and back to airport or if its your own vehicle and you need to pay for parking and gas.

I know it sounds nuts and very tedious but trust me, the little things add up fast. If you want a true price comparison that's the way to do it though.

On a side note: as I stated we've been to three Sandals. We have also been to the Royal in Cancun (adults only AI) and are heading back for round two this year. The range in price between all four AI's we have been to has been between 6-8k (all were in peak season except one) and that has included EVERYTHING. I have reviews and pics in the link above my siggy pic.

BTW, I can tell you this coming trip to Cancun for seven nights with a royal junior corner suite which, is the second highest level room, plus flight, excursions,^we are doing three*hotel room at airport night before and transportation is 6k.

  • Cruises tend to add up fast when you calculate a hotel the night before the cruise, taxi's or rental car, flights, gratuity, etc. Plus you have to pay for excursions that are usually included when staying at a resort (snorkeling, kayaking). I know that cruiselines have the bar packages now but it depends on the person if it's a good value. It all depends on what you want and when you travel. We haven't done an all inclusive in almost 4 years but we love both cruises and staying at AI's. I would try a cruise to see if you like it.
  • Thanks guys! The cruise we are looking at would be within driving distance (but we'd need to pay for parking while we are gone).  I'm so skewed because the AI we went to was for our honeymoon and we went for 15 days, Butler level, etc... it cost a lot but it was totally worth it.  We aren't looking to spend nearly as much this time.

I may go talk to a travel agent and see if they can do all the work you mentioned for us HAHA Between working 60+ hours a week and a 7 month old I don't think I have the time to do it accurately!!! You guys have given me a lot to think about that I hadn't though, thanks!
