Anyone ever made a diaper cake?
I'm working on making a diaper cake for my best friend's baby shower. I have a few weeks to work on it. I've got all the diapers rolled and ready to start with the basic structure but I can't figure out a good way to get the diapers to stay put when I stack them the way I want them. Of course, I could use a hot glue gun or something like that but I want her to be able to use the diapers...so i don't want to damage them. Any ideas?

Sugar & Spice
I think that the diaper cakes that I received as gifts (I've never made one) had something in the middle that went up through all the layers, like a paper towel or wrapping paper tube. So then the layers were all built around that one thing and it stayed together that way. Does that make sense?

Use cake pans to get the basic structure. Once you have the diapers all in, either use a large rubber band or use twine (I prefer the second method). Then you can cover the twine with pretty ribbon. I always use glue dots with the ribbon as opposed to hot glue so I don't damage the diapers.
In between the layers, use cardboard cake rounds that you can find at Micheals. Just go ahead and get the 6-8 inch because they'll provide enough support. Get a wooden dowel rod and use it in the center for support. I hot glue it to the bottom cardboard round and then just poke it through the rounds as you build the layers.
This! Or find an awesome tutorial on Pinterest.
Like a PP said, I use a paper towel roll in the center of mine, build the layers around that, and tie in place with a rubber band or string, then cover with ribbon over that. Good luck! Diaper cakes are so cute and fun to make!

You could also make a diaper bassinet. I am making one of these for a baby shower. Here is a video I found.
