I just sent a student to bed. He was given the choice but insisted on coming to class. He arrived at my door saying he couldn't do my homework last night because he had a fever and threw up on it...ick.
I gave him a new copy and told him to go to bed!
This new strain is making me nervous! Everyone here gets the flu shot since we are a residential school...but looks like it's not helping. People are dropping like flies!
Re: this darn flu
I'm sorry but..WHAT? The kid had a fever and threw up last night and his parents sent him to school?? This makes me so annoyed. You need to be fever free for at least 24 hrs before you go anywhere and on meds.
But nooo..go ahead. Send him to school so lots of other kids can get it!
My little nuggets
I think this is one of the main issues at hand here. Not only with school but we all know there are idiots who show up to work on death's door just so they can show everyone that they are in work. STAY. THE. ***. HOME. It's these idiots who are sending their kids to school and who are coming into work sick, who are getting everyone else sick. It's unnecessary.
It's a boarding school so he lives on campus. Our school pedi told him to go to bed but he was afraid he would miss too much and his grades would drop. He came to class against the pedi's instructions! I told him it is soooo irresponsible to come to class if you're sick and you risk infecting everyone else (including my 4mo DD who can't be vaccinated until March).
I'm pretty much attacking my students with hand sanitizer.
This was my mom, we had to go to school for an hour or two so we were counted for the day. 25 years later, and now as a teacher, she still doesn't see this as a problem.
We have one of those idiots here now. We have a work from home option AND our boss sent out an email that was like "if you're sick, PLEASE work from home" but nope. She insists on sitting at her desk hacking up a lung and sneezing. Yet on a normal day, she'll totally work from home. I just don't get it.
Thats my biggest issue - you have no idea who people have at home that you could be giving the illness to. One guy has a 3 week old at home. Another girl is constantly visitng her mother who is going through chemo. These people can't afford to be sick just because you want to sit at your desk instead of your couch. Or you don't want your grades to drop, etc. So irresponsible.
My little nuggets
Yeah, after I told him that babies can die from the flu he conceded and went to bed. I felt bad for being alarmist but I don't think our students realize how serious it can be.
And besides, if it's an excused absence...you're not going to be penalized!
I bet she's being a martyr "I am SO committed to this job that I am working NO MATTER WHAT! Look how dedicated I am!" No, you're an idiot. Go the *** home.
HR sent around strict orders about staying home, and I've been wiping down everything with sani-cloths daily. I do not have time to be sick.
Yeah no one thinks of her as a martyr. More like an a**hole. When she leaves we spray her cube down with lysol. It's a miracle her keyboard still works.
My little nuggets
Kernal, you should do it while she's there.
Just hose her down with Lysol. The extra stinky kind.
I was totally that student who didn't want to miss a day because I thought I would fall behind. I was a huge nerd though. If I had the flu, or anything contagious really, I would have stayed home. Poor kid, I'm glad he went to bed! Hopefully he'll stay there tomorrow too.
I only ever missed two days of school in the entire 12 years and that was due to the flu!
