Emmy - How was the party?

How was the party?  Did you survive having it at your house?  Saw some of the pictures, everything looked great!

I may be picking your brain when it comes time to Mason's party - he has recently switched from Jake & the Neverland Pirates obsessed to Avengers/Superhero obsessed.

Re: Emmy - How was the party?

  • The party was great!!  The kids had a blast, but when it was over I said never again in my house!  Stick out tongue  20+ kids (and parents) was a LOT to be all on one floor of my home.  But...no one got injured and my house is still standing, and the kids really were well-behaved considering they were inside & all wound up!

It was all worth the headache though, because the next morning, Jake gave me a big hug & said "thank you for my party mommy, I loved it so much!"  :)

I had some structured games for them to play and masks to make, which I was hesitant about (I wasn't sure if it would hold their attention) but I'm glad that I did them, I think it helped to keep them moving from one thing to the next and got them all interacting with each other.

If you switch to that theme, let me know!  I have some decorations you can have.

  • Awww how sweet is Jake to say that?! :)
  • So glad that it turned out well!  Thanks for the offer on the decorations, I will let you know!  I am also debating if we should have the party at our house or not...it would be nice not to, but I can't think of anywhere else to have it.  It was at our house last year on St. Patrick's Day and it ended up being around 70 out, so we really lucked out!
  • Emmy - Can you share the games that you had them play? And how you set up the "art" area? I need to start working up some ideas. I am hoping to keep the guest list to about 8 kids!

Heather changes her mind every day about where she wants her party...so I don't think she really cares. And at this point I think I'm just going to have it at our house. That keeps up the tradition of home parties on even years and parties at places on odd years.

  • Amy---I'm working on a blog post now with some of the games and projects! :)  But we did a pin the bat signal on batman (aka-pin the tail on the donkey), the kids got a kick out of putting the blindfold on and spinning in circles :)  We also did a superhero obstacle course that involved a tunnel, punching bag and knocking over a building (made of boxes).

For the craft, they did superhero masks (I got the kit from Hobby Lobby).  I actually had 3 tables set up for the kids to use (2 card tables, 1 long rectangular table), but of course, all of the kids wanted to sit at the same table, so we did some shuffling and made more room for them to all be together.  I put a mask at each seat, then put the foam stickers they were using to decorate in bowls (I had 5 bowls so they weren't all fighting over the same stuff) and scattered the bowls out on the table.  The masks then had a string that needed to be tied onto the mask, so most of the kids found their mom to help out with that part, and one of Jake's friend had an older sister there who was my helper for the party, so she walked around the table the whole time and helped the kids peel the stickers, tie the strings, etc...  She also helped me out with the games and wrote down all of the gifts for me, it was awesome! :)

  • Thanks. I look forward to the blog post. :-)

My only concern is that we don't have any space for anything active like an obstacle course. I was trying to think of an activity that they could do outside that would take about 15 minutes. Enough to burn off some energy, but not too long in case it is cold. Although if it is super cold, we'll skip it.

I'm currently thinking about an art theme since Heather loves art class and it will be a girl/boy mix. Of course, I just started thinking about it this morning!
