Credit Score Question

Does it matter, since you would be having more available credit either way?

Pay off one credit card at a time OR decrease the balances on all them at the same time (by percentage, ie instead of paying one off in full get them all down to 75%, then 605, etc)? In 12 months they will all be paid off.

Re: Credit Score Question

  • I'd pay down the highest percent first.

Ditto. You essentially owe the most on the highest interest rate so get rid of that one!

  • Your credit score takes into consideration your amount of available credit vs amount of used credit. So it's better if, for instance, you have $50,000 of credit available on all of your cards and are using $10,000 of it as opposed to using $30,000 of it

It's better for your wallet to pay down/off the card with the highest interest rate but I'm not 100% certain that it matters for your credit score which card you pay off first.

Whatever you do, make sure you're paying all of them on time. That will make a big difference in your score.

Not sure if that answers your question.

ETA and now I just re read your question and it seems you know this already. Instead of dd'ing I'm just gonna leave this 'cause I'm lazy.
