Charleston, South Carolina

My fiance & I plan on visiting Charleston sometime this summer. We've been once before, but it was only for two days, so we didn't get to experience an awful lot. Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for places to eat, things to do/see, etc. We will more than likely be going just for a weekend & I don't want to miss out on anything. :)

Re: Charleston, South Carolina

  • I've lived in Charleston for 2 years now and LOVE IT! It's hard to tell you what to do for a weekend. What do you like?

There are restaurants galore! Right now is restaurant week. You can go to www.Charlestonrestaurantweek.com and see a great list of places. Of course, there won't be the specials when you are here in the summer but it's a nice reference to many popular spots. If you are into history there are several different types of tours you can go on. There are fabulous plantations with beautiful gardens. I like walking around downtown and shopping. There are 3 main beaches close to downtown.

  • I have lived n Charleston my whole life and love it as well! There are so many different thing/places to see and do.

In the summer it will be very hot, but one of our favorite places to go is the beach. Our favorite is Sullivan's Island. It is small, very low crowds, full of locals. Has some cute restaurants as well. It's a great place to go to first thing in the morning and walk, it's not to far from downtown either. It's near Mt Pleasant so you could always grab lunch at Shem Creek and then head to a plantation.

One night I would define toy splurge and get dressed up to hit the town. Our favorites are Oak, Grill 225, Husk and Halls Chophouse. Grill 225 is probably my favorite. They also have a rooftop bar. There are plenty of bars/clubs to go to also.

Besides the plantations and beaches there is shopping on King Street, the Battery, and fort Sumter. Every second Sunday of the month they also close down King Street to cars and the restaurants put tables in the street and there are little bands and singing groups up and down the street. It's a lot of fun.

    Enjoy your trip!
