While we are talking about carseats

I'm just wondering.  Do you have car seats for both you and your DH's vehicle or just one that you move back and forth?  When you leave the kids home with a sitter do you leave them with a car seat?

The boys have just about maxed out their infants seats and we have a set of car seats for them to move into I'm just trying to figure out if we should invest in another set.  We have always left a set of seats at the house for our sitter just incase there was an emergency but how DH is insisting that if there was an emergency he would want her stay at the house with which ever baby was fine and let the EMTs take the other baby to the hospital where we would meet them.  Which makes sense but still freaks me out.  I also understand his point of view that he doesn't want our sitter taking the kids anywhere since her car isn't exactly reliable.

Re: While we are talking about carseats

  • Once we got out of the infant carriers, we got a seat for each car.  Then my ILs bought one as well but I would install mine into my parents car when they would take her. I don't mind moving my Britex in and out of the cars, but the Graco we have has more difficult clips to unsnap and I really dislike fighting with it.

ETA, we share dropoff/pickup at daycare. So we really both needed seats in our cars.  I have friends who go with the whomever has the kids gets the car with carseats, so that works for them.

  • We have sets in both cars out of necessity; Brian drops the kids off at daycare, and I pick them up. We don't really use a sitter on a regular basis, and if we do it's usually my mom, who has carseats as well.

  • We both have a seat in our car - there's been times where one of us has planned on picking up DD and we had to switch at the last minute due to being stuck somewhere. We don't keep seats at the house for a sitter, it's pretty rare that someone watches her and when they do, we ask that they just watch her at the house (or their house) and not take her anywhere.

If you need a second set, Wal-mart's website has some seats that you can buy in sets of 2 to save a little money. GL!

ditto. One seat would have been a pain! I have seen people at daycare leave their convertible seat there and whoever drops off takes it in and who picks up has to install it each day when they pick up. Seemed like a huge inconvenience and I would rather have 2 seats. We went with evenflo triumph which wasn't too expensive.

When somebody watches dd, dh and I are together so the other car is at home and they could use that if was a necessity. The last time somebody watched her dh just installed our backup travel seat (Cosco scenera which is really inexpensive) in their car before we left because they planned on taking her somewhere.

  • After the infant seat we also had seats for mine, DH's and IL's cars. If my parents have the kids and need to go somewhere we just drive both of our cars to their house and leave one.
  • We each have car seats because our schedules change so much with daycare drop off and pick up, with B bringing S to church on Sundays, etc.

Typically when we are out, one care is at home, or we leave my car with whichever parent is watching him.  When we pay a babysitter it is with the expectation that they won't go anywhere.

Mostly I assume that if there was a need I would come home from wherever I was.   If it was a true emergency, I would have the babysitter call an ambulance and then meet them at a hospital.  Also, dear friends with 2 kids live down the street.  I could call them in a pinch for transportation needs.

  • I guess I should have explained that our boys aren't in daycare we have a sitter at our house 3 days a week.  But you all made a good point a daycare center wouldn't have a car seat or take the other baby to the hospital if something happen that one had to go to the er.  I do think we will probably invest in a second set of seats for DH's truck just for convenience though.

  • we have a seat for each car for sure!!!   DC stays home with my Husband while I am at work, but sometimes he goes to his grandparents if DH gets called in. It is SO MUCH easier to have a seat in my car so I can just swing by and pick him up after work and not have to leave and reinstall seats all the time.

Also no matter who goes where in what car there is always a car at the house with a seat so if for ANY REASON they would need to or choose to leave there would be a seat. Moving seats is a HUGE pain.

We actually have a 3rd seat in DH's work truck ( which has a backseat) because sometime he would take DS to pick up materials and supplies and he keeps his truck at his shop 3 blocks away.  he didn't like driving to move seats, or carry a seat 3 blocks so he bought another!

IF we are leaving him somewhere and we feel they need to have a seat or know they plan on taking him somewhere we will leave one.

  • We have seats for both cars, like the others due to daycare pick ups/drop offs.  My parents watch the boys 2x a week and have car seats in their car and if my in-laws happen to watch them during the week, DH will drive their car to work, and leave his car with them.  (However, that's mainly for them to take them places if they want.  In the case of an extreme emergency, I'd want them to call 911 vs. driving them to a hospital.)
