might be moving out of state

In light of soon to be new gun legislation in NY State, my husband has said that he's seriously considering moving us out of state. Although I've been begging to move south of the Mason-Dixon line for years (we were both born in TX), the now possible thought of moving is scaring me. I'm trying to be a helpful stay at home wife and collect info for him (as he's the bread winner, he makes most of the decisions). I'm not sure what info I should be looking for... We do NOT have kids and we will not be having any (ever) except for dogs; so I'm not really looking for kid-friendly places. I do need a new area with deer hunting, fishing... I know how to physically organize our stuff, just not how to look for new places when completely moving to a new state...

Any helpful hints and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Nestie Ladies!

Re: might be moving out of state

  • Is your husband's job just something that can up and move or is your financial situation going to change.

Why not move closer to family if youa re both from TX originally.

I know its your personal belief system, but I can't believe this is a real post. someone is moving because of gun control laws?!

  • So, what's gonna happen if the state you move to changes their gun control laws, are you just gonna up and move again?

  • Generally, people get a new job in the location they are moving before they quit and move from their existing one. That's the prudent thing to do, at least.

So, your DH should look into jobs in his field in Texas, if that's where you want to go, and begin applying.

Once he has secured employment, then you can find a place to live.

  • Thank you ladies. We're looking into Michigan. TX would be too hot for DH as he's a mechanic. He can work on anything from cars to deisel engines to boats. He is just starting to inquire about jobs in the Michigan area we are looking at (I have a family member there). And yes - we are looking to leave NYS due to gun laws. My DH is an avid sportsman and he loves having the right to hunt and fish. I also am a registered gun owner and all of our guns take 10-round magazines. NYS is trying to pass a law banning anything over 7 round mags. We would like to own a hand gun or two for target shooting only. We feel strongly that this is our right as Americans. And I'm not sure if any of you ladies live in NYS but alot of things here are quite pricey (I'm not saying MI will be better, but we have experience from vacationing there several times in the past few years). I will dearly miss my friends and family here but we do have Skype abilities and it's only a drive away...

  • Thank you, Christia10. I'm trying very hard to use my time as being an unemployed housewife with no children to better serve my marriage. We have so many friends and family members who seem to stop caring for their spouses. My husband and I are best friends and want to keep it that way for the next 75 years!
