VENT-DH and night weaning

DS was night weaned about 6 weeks ago, but when he was sick with a fever of 103 for a week, I let it come undone.

Last week DH and I discussed going through the process again and decided that we would do it on a night when DH didn't have the kids the next day so he could take the brunt of it and sleep the next day if necessary.

Well--the second time seemed to be harder than the first.  Nolan was up most of the night and when he did sleep it was in short spurts.  And DH changed his mind last night after we already started down that path.  I felt like I had 2 babies last night with his complaining and was left with doing it on my own.

I am exhasted and beyond irritated. If I had known he'd bail, I would have done this on a night that was convenient for me.  Not when I had to work the next day, and the rest of the week. He doesn't get why I'm so pissed.

Re: VENT-DH and night weaning

  • Boys (men - same difference) are dumb.

  • I'm sorry.  That stinks.

If it makes you feel better, when I was working on weaning S, during one middle of the night wake up I said to DH, "Will you go in and rock him, because if I go in he will want to nurse."

In his sleep deprived state DH bitterly said, "He will want to nurse from me too."

    Nope.

Also, another time I asked him to go in (just because I was tired!) DH said, "I don't know what you expect me to do with him."

Sleep deprivation does bad things to people.  Treat yourself well.  Try to cut DH a little bit of slack, and work out a new plan.  (If he goes back on that one, make him sleep in the garage.)

Well said.  I would also teach him the saying  "Happy wife, happy life."

  • i couldn't have said anything more than Dena already did. so ditto her!
  • Sometimes they can be so frustrating!  My suggestion is to approach him about it well before bedtime, and just be honest....you need his help with this, and it might be rough for a few nights, but in the end, it's going to benefit everyone.  I find that we bicker at each other in the middle of the night over these things, and everything seems much worse than it really is at 3am.  So having the conversation and getting a plan together during the day is what has worked for us.

    good luck!

Yes--I would say most of our fights happen at 3 am!  I guess this is extra frustrating...because we did talk about it before hand multiple times and I basically told him exactly what you wrote.  And now he claims that he doesn't remember and I should have reminded him.

I know in the grand scheme of things I'm more irritated because I'm tired and cranky.
