Do you have a Prime membership? Ours is about to run out and I can't decide if I want to renew it or not.

I do like being able to get a free book a month, and they have some decent titles that my library doesn't. But since it's limited to one a month it's less valuable. Like, I finished Hunger Games last week, but I can't get another book till Feb. You pay about $6.50 a month for Prime, but the Hunger Games books are only $5.99, so it's actually more expensive in this instance for me to have to wait for the next period where I can get the book free vs buying it.
I also liked the free movie aspect, but considering I haven't watched any movies I'm not sure it tips the scales.
The only thing that might is the FreeTime for kids. I do intend to continue that and it's $2/month more with no Prime. So that brings the difference down to $55 a year for prime, rather than $79 since the FreeTime is cost me $24 more. This is too much math.
Free two day shipping isn't a big benefit for me.

It's an app that enables you to set up a profile for your kid and it gives you access to free apps, games, books and movies that are geared to their age (although I'm not sure how specific it is b/c Wes and Lanna get a lot of the same recommendations). It's so much nicer than downloading stuff on the iPad. I feel like a lot of that stuff was only free if you got boring Lite versions, or it was free but was riddled with ads that the kids were always clicking on. With this, they can't even get out of their own profile without me entering a password. Content is updated every month, but you don't lose the old stuff, so I think it's a good value. It's $2.99 a month with Prime and $4.99 without.
There are also parental controls for how much time they can spend doing specific things (like they can only watch an hour of videos per day, but can read unlimited books for example). I haven't needed to use that, but it exists.
My kids love it. They fight over the Kindle every day. We have the Fire HD -- I don't know if it works on all Kindles or not.
Interesting re: the discount.
So if I download a movie on my Kindle, can I watch it on my TV or just on the Kindle?
I should say - we do use the discount on diapers/wipes as well. That part I do like!
I didn't know you could get the discount! I don't usually care that it gets there in 2 days, I just love that there's no minimum to ship the items for free.
How does the streaming thing work? I don't have netflix.

Mandy, with the prime membership, you get access to their streaming service, which is fairly comparable to that of netflix, a bunch of kids shows, a decent movie selection, etc.
We have a Roku and an Apple TV, and with those, we're able to watch the amazon streaming service on our tvs.
I've never downloaded an amazon movie, so I can't speak to that, but with our apple tv we can watch the shows we've downloaded via itunes.
We set up the free time account too & the kids love it. We already have prime but its under John's accouny and the kindle is mine so I'm not sure if I can switch his prime membership over or not.
How time flies! Caileigh (9), Keira (6) & Eamon (3)
I want prime, but mostly for the 2 day shipping. I think I would order everything through amazon then.
Yes, you get to borrow a free book from the Kindle lending library once a month with your Prime membership. I didn't search it extensively, but I know they have the Hunger Games trilogy, so there are at least some of the more popular titles available.
