Book club week 2 update

How is everyone doing?

Audiobook

Just finish Xenocide - Orsen Scott Card - book written over 20 years ago.  Whoa, really this book is DEEP.  But I liked it more than Speaker of the death (book #2).

Started Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn - 50 pter - last night.  I really like it so far.  Very excited about this book haha.

Books

Finished Bitten - Kelley Armstrong - free space.  I was actually reading this fo NBC discusion but didn't finish in time.  I was ok.  I didn't really get into it until halfway in.

Started Total Money Makeover - Dave Ramsey - nonfiction.  I knew the fundamentals of his ideas, just wanted to read more into them.  He a little crazy about somethings, but his snowball to debt paying makes sense.  Once H's job settles in I really hope to do this. starting with paying a few things off with taxes and rolls those to the next debt.

After TMM I'm going back to Feast for Crows - George RR Martin (500+ pages).

Total - 45 pts

Re: Book club week 2 update

  • Since I decided to not read A Clash of Kings my reading has been going really well.

I finished Gone Girl - 50 pt book

I read The Fertility Diet - nonfiction book - I didn't really enjoy this book because I felt like a lot of the information was stuff I already knew.  A friend gave it to me to read and I didn't really realize that basically its for people that don't ovulate and are overweight and/or have a very unhealthy diet.  I am almost too healthy in my diet, so this book wasn't really all that helpful. but still informative

Little Bee- free book - I liked this book. its based losely on the stuggle within Nigera and the killing of people in small villages....it was good but not amazing.

I'm now reading two things - The American Wife (book over 500 pages) and am really enjoying it. and also Anna and the French Kiss (book in a series) its sooo good! I can't believe its been laying next to my bed for months and I haven't picked it up.

and thats it!  I need an audio book, so I put several on hold at the library and I think i'll try to get there tomorrow night.

  • I can't remember if I'd finished Opening Moves last week. That's my new book by one of your favorite authors.

I finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night. I used it as book with a male main character, but please let me know if I should move it. I also read Downpour for book written in 2012.

I'm currently reading The Rivals as book in a series. It's book two of The Mockingbirds series. YA, but quick & fun & I enjoyed the first book. I started listening to Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore this morning. I am in love with it already! The narrator is awesome!

I didn't read the book, I watched the movie and was pretty drunk actually while doing so, but wasn't the girl more so the main character?  I honestly don't care if you use it here but I actually think it would fit better in book you've seen talked about on NBC.

have you read the Life of Pi?  Brittany suggested I read it for my book with a male main charachter.

I did read Life of Pi. I didn't care for it.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a multitude of characters, really, but the primary ones are Mikael Blomkvist & Lisbeth Salander. The blurb on goodreads starts out talking about Blomkvist, so that's why I was considering it a book with a male main character.

I had thought about it too, but decided since there were two main characters I wouldn't.  We're pretty flexible though, do whatever you think fits in the category!

Oh my goodness, isn't he?  I wonder if there's a way to find more books narrated by him.

  • Finished:

I used Sisterhood Everlasting for my free space.  It's a companion book to the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series and was once of the worst books I've read in a long time.

Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor-Book recommended by a friend (Andrea).  I enjoyed reading this book but it was purely a story, not much excitement.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo-Book talked about on NBC

Crewel-A YA book that I'm not sure I can fit into the challenge.

    Reading Now:

Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List-I don't think this will fit into the challenge either

    Listening to:

The Diviner's-I think I may use this for genre you wouldn't normally read because it's a little demented and I think if I weren't doing the challenge I wouldn't continue reading it.  Especially with having just read Gone Girl and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo I've reached my weirdo quota.

THANKS!  I actually did my bills etc in a spreadsheet on my own and I came out to be about the same of when each one would get paid off!

  • Beebe - you can probably click the narrator's name on audible to see all of the books he's read. (Mr. Penumbra)
  • I finished A Gathering of Witches last night.  It consumed my life, hence why I wasn't here for a while.  The sequel is waiting for me at the library, which was closed today, along with The Crimson Crown.
