XP: Soufriere and/or Castries St Lucia Recs?

I am very excited to be going on a vacation where we have nothing planned besides sitting on the beach. But we'd still like to do some things while visiting. What did you do while in St Lucia?

We're going to be staying in Soufriere for 4 days & then at a Sandals in Castries for 4 days. Anything I need to know about or recommendations? Thanks so much!

Re: XP: Soufriere and/or Castries St Lucia Recs?

  • We did one of the ziplining tours in St. Lucia - VERY fun.  I really enjoyed it!  I don't know which Sandals you are staying at, but there is a bus that will take you around to the other three locations.  We checked out each one, the Sandals Grande had a good restaurant called Barefoot on the Beach. I also heard they have a sunset booze cruise that is fun, although I didn't check it out myself.

The one thing I would not recommend is we did a shopping excursion in Castries.  Everyone just basically comes up to you and tries to sell you rubbish, and they are very pushy.  Not fun.

  • You might consider hiking Gros Piton. But be warned, it's not a hike - it's more like a climb. Oh I wish I had known that...
  • Where will you be staying in Soufriere? If you're not staying at Ladera, I'd recommend at least going there for a meal or even a drink in the bar (during the day so that you can see the view). Beach hopping via water taxi is a fun way to get around. I wouldn't bother with the "volcano" unless you're really interested in earth sciences. Anse chastanet area had the best snorkeling.
The town of Soufriere is interesting for an hour or two (it's small) plus it's not as touristy as Castries. Just say a firm "no thank you" to "tour guide" offers.
    Have fun!
