So today hubby and I went to the dr to talk about getting off my birth control. She said to buy a prenatal vitamin that was food based and stupid me didn't ask what that meant. We had to go to Walmart so i asked the pharmacist and she said "you need to ask your doctor that question." What?? Shouldn't that be something she should be able to tell me?? What does that mean? Does anyone have suggestions on pre-natal vitamins? There just seem to be too many choices. Some are only one vitamin but then others are two. Why? So confused!
Re: Pre-natal vitamins
Hmm...I have no idea what that means! My doctor really didn't care what kind of prenatals I was taking prior to getting pregnant, I think he will prescribe something after I do though. He even said I could continue with my regular multivitamin while "trying".
For what its worth, I take the one-a-day women's every other day and add an additional 800mg of folic acid. On the other days, I take a one-a-day prenatal with the additional DHA pill. I found the prenatal was very hard on my stomach when I took it every day so I take it every other since half the time is better than not at all.
If you google "food-based prenatal" there are some vitamins that come up. Maybe one of those? Frankly, I don't really know how much it actually matters. It sounds like its your doctor's personal preference for whatever reason. The only thing that I am really seeing is that maybe they are easier on your stomach?

I think you are right. thanks ladies!
I ended up buying this one. Mom mentioned to take at night so that's what I've been doing. Thanks!!
