Hairloss Semi-Update

Some asked for an update...so here it is.

Brinley saw the pedi for her thinning hair issue.  The first thing they wanted to check was her thyroid and her blood count and send her to a pediatric derm.  Both blood tests came back normal.

We saw the derm yesterday and he thinks it is likely telogen effluvium.  Which is basically what happens when a mom loses more hair a few months after giving birth.  A larger percentage of the hairs go into the resting stage at the same time.  It can be caused by stress, trauma or a few other things (thyroid, low iron levels, etc.)

However, he did order some additional bloodwork to check for low iron levels, autoimmune disease and disorders, and diabetes. The last two terrify me--but I'm hoping for the best and like that the doctor is being thorough.

Re: Hairloss Semi-Update

  • I hope the remaining tests come back without any troubling news Amy, and that B's hairloss was just a fluke.
  • I don't recall hearing about her hair loss. I don't blame you for being worried, but it's encouraging that initial tests have come back clear. I hope they're able to figure out the problem and that it's not one of the more serious of the list of remaining explanations!
  • I hope everything comes back okay!!

    Mandy--

I posted about it a few weeks ago.  The hair on the back of her head has gotten very thin--while the top of her head is still nice and full.  She has a lot of long hair, so it's not really noticeable to anyone except me, when i comb her hair.

And at one point when I was brushing it, small clumps were falling out even when I was being gentle and her hair didn't have many knots.

  • Fingers crossed all comes back fine in her bloodwork. Like moms don't have enough to worry about! Keep us posted.

  • Thanks Amanda and Gwen!  We're getting the next round of tests done tomorrow because the what-if scenarios give me anxiety.

  • That's good that they are being so thorough.  Hopefully everything comes back okay!
