Road Trip!

I know a lot of us are scattered along the east coast so I wanted to ask where would be some good places to stop to do touristy things from Maryland to Myrtle Beach, SC? H and I are going to Myrtle Beach in May and we were thinking about leaving Friday afternoon driving half way to spread out the drive a bit and to site see. Does anyone have any good ideas?

Re: Road Trip!

  • Are you going down I-95 or I-81?  (if you are going I-81 my answer is stop and have dinner with us!  hahaha)

If you can carve out the time, the Baltimore aquarium and the inner harbor are really nice.

  • I agree with Kushie, Baltimore is beautiful! Inner Harbor is nice just to walk around. Not sure if you'll be going through the Durham/Raleigh area, but it's another great area to stop.

  • I am agree with everyone and saying Baltimore is awesome!

  • I actually live 20 minutes away from Baltimore. We will be leaving from Baltimore, MD and driving down to Myrtle Beach, SC. I'm not sure of the route but I think some of it will be I-95.

  •  I have to recommend 'South of the Border'  hahahahaha.  Although you'll be disappointed, after seeing the billboards for 100 miles :) (I haven't actually been there, or driven that route in many many years, so I'm just going on what it was back then.. I imagine it's the same, but someone can probably correct me!  I think it's just off 95, just over the NC/SC border.

Virginia Beach is lovely, if you don't mind a bit of a detour.  I believe 95 sends you through Richmond-  I know a lot of people who live there and love it! I don't know of any hot spots there to send you, but I have a feeling they are out there.

You will be disappointed in South of the Border  lol   just throwing that out there ;-P

I agree with Virginia Beach & Richmond.

If you're going down 95 through Raleigh I can suggest some fun places to eat/see/do. (I lived there for 5 years)  Or if you're taking Hwy 17 through NC I can suggest some things (it goes through my hometown).

Sounds like a fun trip! :)

  • Personally I always look at www.nps.gov and pick one or five places to go along the way :-)

What kind of touristy things do you like... history? roller coasters?

     Have a great trip!

  • I think we are kind of looking for any type of touristy stops whether it be food or museums. Any suggestions are welcomed. I am sure we are take I-95 for majority of the trip but then back roads to get to Myrtle Beach. Thanks for all suggestions.
