Has anyone started filing your 2012 taxes? H and I were playing around with whether to file jointly or separately. I don't know if it is just me but I feel like we would get back even more if we were still considered single. Anyone else feeling the same way?
Re: Taxes :(
H and I will file jointly. The way our stuff is set up since H is considered contract labor he doesn't have taxes taken out of his check so at the end of the year he has to pay them unless he has enough deductions. So my stuff offsets his plus the medical deductions I get help too. We don't care about getting stuff back we just don't want to have to pay.
We also have a lady who does ours for us and she always files it whichever way gets us the most money so I never really worry about it.
We haven't started yet, but I think we'll probably be filing jointly. There is a huge difference between our incomes, so that should work out best.
If you two make approximately the same, filing jointly could mean you pay more tax, assuming there aren't other reasons for you to file jointly, it may make sense to file separately. Running both returns is definitely the best way to go
