Bed rails and Aqua Noodles

We are moving Will into his big boy room and bed sometime next month. While searching for bed rails, I came across the idea of using Aqua Noodles as bed rails (under the fitted sheets). Anyone try this? Do you think it could work long-term?

It appealed to be because it is cheap and almost every actual bed rail that I looked at online had a good number of complaints in the reviews.

 Thanks!

Re: Bed rails and Aqua Noodles

  • when we put EJ in her big bed, we didn't get a bed rail at all. I think she has rolled out once or twice in the past couple years. Both times she was scared, but ok. She tends to sleep in the middle of the full bed, and I check on her when I go to bed and move her to the middle if she is too close to an edge. Until a few months ago, I also kept the bed against a wall on one side. She also had a trial run of sleeping in a full sized bed when we took her to the beach at 3.5 years old. and had no problems there. Which gave me the no-rail confidence.

But I think I would try the noodle idea before buying a rail..

  • Although we didn't use a noodle, we used something very similar.  It was a blow up rail that you put under the sheet.  It has been WONDERFUL for us.  We use it at camp, on trips, and at home (cause you can deflate it and it folds up really easy for travel).  It was fairly expensive for a blow up piece of plastic, but I honestly wouldn't trade it for the world.  This is the one we have:

It came with a hand pump and it's quick and easy to inflate/deflate.  :)

  • We moved DD to a full size bed just before she turned 2 because the little monkey was climbing out of her crib.  We didn't use anything.  We had one side against the wall, and when we put her to bed we lay on the outside while we read, so she naturally settled into the interior side.

In the past year she did fall out once--but like the others was fine.  I saw the pool noodle  idea on pinterest and thought it was a great idea!

  • Thanks for replying, all!

LittleD, does the inflatable rail pretty much stay put until you change the sheets?

  • I agree with others, we don't use any rails.  We got a bunky board instead of a box spring so that her bed would be lower to the ground.  If falling out becomes an issue I would probably try the pool noodle thing because those rails can be expensive.

That inflatable thing looks great for traveling!

  • We used bed rails at home but pool noodles for naps at the grandma's houses. They worked great!
  • We use bed rails. DD is a big mover when she sleeps and has laminate floors in her room, so I didn't want to take any chances on her hitting the hard floor in the middle of the night.

I don't remember what brand ours are, but they look like this:
