A while ago, I posted about advice for taking a paci away from a preschooler. You girls gave me awesome advice and one or more of you recommended The Paci Fairy book.
We gave him the book at the beginning of January, and he asked what the title was. Then he refused to read it for a week, ha. We thought he was onto us. My husband have him a quick description one day (older kids trade their pacis for a toy and the paci fairy gives their pacis to new babies) and he decided he did want to read it. He immediately loved the idea of trading up and wanted to do it that night. We made him wait and think about it for a few more days. Then, he picked the night and went for it. He went to sleep and stayed asleep completely normally.
It's been a few weeks now, and his sleeping and napping habits are exactly the same as before he gave up the paci. He still naps! He has never asked for it back. It's been so smooth and I really credit the advice I received here and the book. So thank you!!!

BTW, the fact that the book looks like a pink and purple orgy did not take away from it's effectiveness with him. We've never said to him that certain colors are for boys or girls, because we don't believe that, but I was a little worried because the color scheme is over the top.

Re: Going paci-less update and thanks.
LOL and pink and purple orgy. So, what did he trade up for?
Jude's one remaining binky went missing sometime in December. He asked for it once or twice and then forgot about it entirely (which I think confirms my suspicion that the binky had been a crutch for *me* at bedtime for a while).
I was a little worried that he'd ask for it on the long car rides at Christmas to visit family but he was so wiped out that he slept just fine anyway.
Yay for being binky-free!
That is awesome, Erin. I was going to offer to let you borrow the book, but it sounds like Jude doesn't need it!
The paci was definitely a crutch for me as well. I was afraid to let it go because I value my sleep. Ha.
