Daycare Q?

How much do you pay for daycare? Or do you have a nanny? Why one over the other?
I had a nanny until I was 4, and then I went to preschool. I loved my nanny, we still keep in touch today.
We won't have our parents for childcare on the regular, so it would probably be FT.
I'm curious if I should start selling plasma or just move right into auctioning off a kidney.

DD is in FT care at a small center. We pay roughly $1100/month. I live in Chesco...so I guess the upper-end of MCOL (not my neighborhood, ha! but in general). We did not find a center that cost less than that in our area.
I would have been fine with an in-home caregiver, but I couldn't find any that were close enough to either home or work. Our daycare is 1.5 miles from home.
I looked into hiring a nanny - our friends have one for their daughter. They pay $400 a week for her. I know the convenience of not having to get DD up and ready in the morning would be awesome, but we couldn't afford that. They also use her as their primary babysitter - the nanny will be staying at their home with their DD next week when they go on vacation. It is a pretty awesome set-up for them.

We are planning on waiting until 2015 to have kids, but thinking about childcare already gives me anxiety. Maybe I'll get baby crazy and will quit my job, but I highly doubt that. I enjoy working, and the extra income it provides.
We are in a center based daycare and it is $1690/month for DS and that is a step down (cheaper) than infant care.
Around here a nanny will run you a similar cost and that is sharing with another family.
Take home message- move to DC and start a daycare business. You will make bank.
We will be paying $215/week for full time daycare starting in two weeks. It seemed to be the middle of the road in terms of pricing. I looked at one bigger center and a few smaller ones. I did not look at anything like Goddard or Kindercare or other big centers only because there aren't any close to our house.

My little nuggets
When I was looking CC was in 1k range for regular center.
Out in nw Philly 1k-1500 seems regular.
Damn- I thought we would have another little Union fan in the near future.
DD is at a Kindercare in Exton area (Chester County). For the toddler room we are paying like $257 per week. It was a little more expensive for the infant room. I love the structured program and she is now all about the arts and crafts projects. She is mainly obsessed with the snacks- but that is a different story
Its true that as they get older it gets cheaper, but there are also almost yearly rate increases so in essence we keep paying about the same amount every year.
We would also be staying in Lansdale. I'm agog at the prices. Maybe I can find people to do a nanny share.
My daughter will be starting day care probably right after 4th of July (if she comes on time), so if you decide to get a kid by then, let me know and we can talk nanny share.
So weird, my H just looked at me last night and told me lets make babies! I was like with what money! haah! Glad I can relay back to him that we are not there yet!
I'm a few years off, but I can ask around about it if you'd like.
We pay $212 per week full time in a smaller center in Havertown. This is for the infant room. It will go down something like $10 a week as he goes up in rooms.
They can hold up to 8 infants in the room but have had anywhere from 5-7 in it while we have been there.
I like having him in a center. I like that there are several teachers that watch him (no favorites, no scrambling when the provider is sick, peace of mind that there are several adults there watching over each other). I like that he gets the interaction with other children and adults.
It does have its downsides... snow days, illnesses that get spread among the kids.
