Does anyone have any experience with this? I've never had a problem before (I've been on the pill off and on aside from pregnancies & BF'ing for 12 years) I stopped BF'ing Liam last June and switched from the minipill back to a regular pill; I didn't get my period back until August, but since then it's been completely messed up. I get my period at all different times, but always while I'm still taking the active pills (generally in the 3rd week of the cycle)
This month, I thought I was getting my period last Thursday (which was only my 2nd week of active pills), but it only lasted a day and completely stopped. Then, the bleeding started up again this morning. But, I don't have cramps or a headache or any other symptoms I normally get, so I'm thinking it's just some type of breakthrough bleeding.
Anyone else have this? I asked my doctor about it at my annual appt. last month, and he said that it was very strange, but to give it a bit more time to work itself out. Now it's happened 2 more times, so I'm just wondering if I should call back to the office. I'm not sure if it's the type of pill I'm on, or if it could be the sign of some type of issue ![]()
Re: irregular cycles while on the pill?
Yes, I have this problem too. I was taking Errin and my doctor switched me to Junel. I'm STILL having this issue. My doctor told me to give it a few cycles with the new pill before looking into some other options. This month is my 3rd cycle. If I continue to have this problem, I'm calling them back.
It's a total PITA. I get my p every 2 freakin' weeks and it lasts for like 11 days. I think I've been averaging like a week a month without a p. It's awful.
I would call them if you've had 4+ cycles with this pill.
Good luck!

Im a Junel user and have had good luck with it but a couple years ago my pharmacy didn't have it and gave me an equivalent generic (microgestin). It is supposed to be the same but my body did not like it and I had breakthrough bleeding pretty much the whole time. I think I tried the 3 packs in my script hoping it would get better and it didn't. After that I made sure they didn't switch me. Unfortunately Junel is now really hard to find anymore so I keep having to insist on it and not the stupid microgestin!
so Id ask your dr if you could switch to something else to see how you do. If you still have the same problems I'd ditto asking about testing thyroid.
BC prevents you from ovulating. So it would not be break through bleeding. That's why the pill works- it stops eggs from being released and tricks the body in to thinking it has been to force the period.
It could be a problem with the dosage.
The pills forces your body to have a regular cycle, which is why your BC cycles are not at all indicative of how your real cycles are (ie: for TTC purposes-a "regular" BC cycle does not mean that is how you will be without the pill). If it isn't doing that it's likely an issue with the medication since your body isn't doing anything it naturally would.
