Minor Observation

You all know I work in a veterinary office so it should come as no surprise that I deal with a lot of pee and poop on a daily basis (in fact, I often get peed and pooped on on a daily basis). Anyways, I've realized today that clients don't like to say the word poop. I get that it is an awkward conversation to have but sometimes I just need to know whether or not your dog poops normally. Maybe most pet owners don't watch their dogs poop, I do, but only because it is typically the first indicator if something is wrong with your pet.

Anyways, the reason I thought of this is because we had a client in today that referred to her dogs bowel movements as 'she-she'. I mean of all the things you can call poop, you go with 'she-she'! Wheird Confused

Re: Minor Observation

  • It's not just with pets, as a nurse I've heard bm's called many things. I once had a 80 year old woman tell me she had a hard time " making a boom boom". It took me a few moments to process what she was talking about.

  • I think it's worse with nurses because potty training moms come up with crazy stuff. But H calls it "going boom boom" and I have always thought it was weird.
  • I've heard she-she before and it's definitely a weird one. How is that related to poop? I don't understand why poop and potty (for little kids) isn't enough. Although H & I joke that our kid will be the one to get in trouble at preschool for telling his teacher that he needs to take a sh*t.

The only rational reason (and it isn't superbly rational) is that some people pronounce "sh#t" more like "sheeeeit".  It's on youtube, so it happens!

So, maybe from that bastardization of the word comes "she-she".

  • My dad has a cousin who teaches medical terminology at one of the local technical schools, consequently, she had the only 4 year old i've ever met that had a "bowel movement". It blew my mind when I heard the kid say that....

Around our house it's commonly referred to as number 2....

  • Wow, it always surprises me to hear how uncomfortable people are with that word.  Maybe it's because my mom is an RN and my dad is a microbiologist in the lab at the hospital so we were used to talking about that stuff all the time.

MH and I always say poop, and when we take the dog out we mention if she pooped or not, if she had trouble, if it was loose and looked like she might be coming down with something.

Most recently, when she wasn't feeling well, I checked all her poops for blood.

It's nothing to be ashamed of, everyone poops... geez   lol

  • How bizzare.  I guess I just figured most of us furbaby owners talk about their poop like it's second nature.  MH and I usually have a full conversation about this almost daily regarding our babies.  Probably because we have one of our labs on arthritis meds and we have to keep a close eye on him because it is sure sign if something is wrong with him.  I probably keep better track of my dogs' "movements" then my own!
  • I work with kids so I say poop and pee on a regular basis.I don't get people who think it's weird to say. It's like people who can't say sex.

She-she is actually the portuguese word for pee-pee. But yes, people are weird. I watch my cats poop and pee if I am in the basement (where their litter box is) to see if things are okay. They are my children so I need to know if they are peeing and pooping like normal cats.
