Re: Book Club Monday

  • Last week I finished If I Stay by Gayle Forman.  It was good, but I didn't think that it was amazing like so many others thought.  It does make you think though.

Now I am reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  It is a little hard to get into and I am not really sure where the book is going.  Has anyone else read it?  Does it get better?

I've read all the books in that series, it does take awhile to get into I felt with all the foreign names of people, streets, cities etc but it ends up being a good story, I liked them, and i just watched the movie a couple of weeks ago.

  • I finished listening to Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn - LOVED IT!  I also finised Angel Experience - James Patterson (Maximum ride series).  It was ok.  I might listen to the next one... But for now I'm listening to 50 Shades Freed.  I can't not finish a series, but it's not making me as mad as the other 2 books, maybe because I'm listening to it.

Still reading A Feast for Crows - George RR Martin (Game of Thrones book 4).

Are you going to read  Where she went?  It's good.

Girl with the Dragon Tatto was really hard to get into, but I think it's worth it to read it and get to the next two books, which I really enjoyed. WAY faster paced.

It took me a month to read that book.  It started slow and ended slow.  The first 200 pages of the book I kept thinking, "Just get to the flipping point already!!!"  You just have to get past those 200 pages.  Personally, I feel the book should have been polished a bit more.  Honestly, I preferred the movie.

I'm now reading Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, the author of Gone Girl.  I was looking for a break before I finished The Mortal Instruments.  It's easy to burn youself out if you read 5 books in a series back to back.  Sharp Objects is hard to get into.  It's about a serial killer targeting children.  The main character is a 30 year old with serious Mommy issues, and I'm having a really hard time staying interested in the book.  I'm hoping it picks up.

  • Sounds like I am just going to have to push though.  I think that I might do some reading here at work today.  There is barely anyone here because of the storm.

Oh and I do want to read Where She Went.  I am going to wait for it to go on sale because I am not going to pay $9+ for it.

Now that I have a library card, I want to try this.  I have never done an audiobook before.  I am thinking that I might like it for the gym.

  • Still reading The Paris Wife - historical fiction about Ernest Hemmingway and his wife Hadley. I'm only about 20% of the way through (I usually only have time to read 1 or 2 chapters per night). There's so much foreshadowing in the book...I think it's going to get juicy soon!

I couldn't get in to this! I just finally let myself quit it. I was just about halfway through and figured if I wasn't in to it by then, it wasn't going to work.

I need something new! I was reading a bunch of random stuff for an extra project, but that's over now. I'll have to see what I have on my Kindle. I like to keep extras around there.

  • I loved the Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, but like the others, the first couple hundred pages are difficult and confusing. I think it's worth it.

I'm pretty sure all I've read since last week has been the Vampire Academy series. I am absolutely in loooove with it. I can't stop. I'm on the 5th out of 6 books and I'm sad they'll be finished soon :(

If anyone didn't see my recommendation last week, please please check out Hopeless by Colleen Hoover!!! It is sooo good. It has intense content matter, but it's amazing.
