Thinking of canceling cable

Has anyone done it before? We just got rid of Dish Network and we went with Cablevision and right now with the internet we pay around $100. I watch most of my shows online but there are some channels that I watch that arent aired online (Discover/TLC/LocalChannels) but I find that out of the whole month I watch (actually watch) maybe 5 hours tops on the actual tv. Its sometimes on more often but more so for just having something on in the background. Annabelle doesnt watch TV and neither does H and it just seems like a waste. Now I discovered a lot of shows are also on Youtube that arent online.

Re: Thinking of canceling cable

  • I've thought about it. I know some people who have NetFlix instead of cable so they get their shows that way. H would never agree to it though. That boy loves his cable.

  • I've been thinking about it when our promotion goes up in June.  My friend has Roku and watches everything on that plus netflix. She loves it.

The only downside for us would be sports.  We watch football, baseball and college basketball.

  • We could never do it because we watch too many sports...but I think it's a great idea if you don't watch much.

  • We are sports junkies too and would never be able to. Chris will give up meals before his cable.

But like you said you dont watch too much on tv. It might be worth it. Our cable bill is stupid expensive, but its because of the HD junk and extra add ons.

  • OMG... are you reading my mind!  Hahahaa, Stu and I were just talking about this the other day.  I am waiting until next week once BIL moves, and will be calling Verizon and cancellng our cable!  We will still keep internet, but it will cut the cost of our bill in half each month.

I've researched a lot and I think we've decided we will get a subscription to Hulu Plus (it's like $7 or $8/month)  There's apps so you can stream Hulu through different video game consoles, smartphones, tablets, etc so we will be set!

I can't wait to stop paying Verizon so much darn money every month!

  • I talked to H and we would be saving $40 a month which isnt a lot but its something. We have tried HULU and Roku a while back but I dont think we will be going with either this time around. They were nice but all my shows are practically online so it makes no sense to get anything else. I just feel bad because we just got Comcast like last month.
