I was just looking at your blog.  Your little boy is adorable!  What kind of baby gate do you have on your landing going upstairs?  How do you have it mounted? We have the exact same steps going upstairs, and I was afraid this was going to be a problem for us. Thanks!

  • Thanks.  I think I ordered every gate that amazon sells trying to find one that worked well.  We ended up with three of these gates... (Top of the stairs, bottom of the stairs and top of the basement stairs)

    Dream Baby Swing Close gates.

They are pressure mounted on both sides, which worked well on the banister of the stairs and over the molding on the floor. They come with small lipped circles (like a lid) that get mounted to the wall (can be screwed or with adhesive) then the gate mounting fits into it, then it gets tightened against the wall.  We are going strong over a year, with two dogs, and the gates have not moved yet.

They swing open both ways which is really helpful for the stairwell.

I was worried about the having to step over the ledge but all three of us do not have an issue with it.  At first we had issues opening the gates...  There is a slider on the top that you slide, then lift up, then swing the gate open.  Now I can do it in my sleep, but others who visit struggle for a few minutes.

  • Thanks for the advice! I have been staring at our landing endlessly thinking how is this going to work? This is perfect.
