Mint?

So I finally caved, and after much deliberation and research, I joined Mint.com this morning.  I don't think we do a bad job budgeting, but I would definitely like an easier and more centralized way to look at where our money is going.

Any of you guys use it?  Tips/tricks/advice?

Re: Mint?

  • I've been toying with joining Mint- I'll be really curious to hear how you like it!  I'm just hesitant to link up my accounts for security reasons, but I think it would be an easier/more effective way to budget compared to what we currently do.

That was my concern, too.  But after all I read I figured it wasn't any more risky than online banking.  There is no way to shift money around in Mint and even if someone "hacked" into your Mint account they wouldn't be able to get any of your passwords.  I think it'd take a pretty big overhaul of the entire system to access all the usernames/passwords.  Not to say that it couldn't happen, but I still drive a car and fly on airplanes even though there is a chance that I could be killed while doing so.  The benefit outweighed the small risk for me =]

  • I joined. It's okay. I think my major complaint is that it couldn't connect to all of our accounts, specifically our credit card. That's probably where a lot of our discretionary income goes so it sucked not being able to track that. Otherwise, it was mostly helpful.

  • I joined it awhile ago but don't use it very offten. I don't like the set up for it and that might just be because I didn't spend enough time on it but I personally don't like it. We only have a savings and checking account so it's not that hard for me to keep track of our money with our online banking.

Yeah, we have savings, checking, 2 credit cards, 6 student loans (that's AFTER consolidating), one car loan, and 3 retirement funds to keep track of so maybe that's why I find it more helpful =]  Some of the stuff is my husbands so this makes it much easier for me to see how much his student loans are, what's he saved for retirement, etc.

  • We use it! Mostly for the reasons listed above. It's nice to see all of credit cards, loans, savings, etc all in one place. We like it to keep track of paying off our credit card debt. We are trying to use the budget more but it gets a little confusing. My only complaint is that it has trouble "connecting" with our accounts sometimes...so right now it's two days behind and showing H's paycheck but not mine! Very frustrating b/c I'm trying to set up our budget for February.

  • I signed up for it years ago and played around with it for a month or two then got bored/annoyed with it.  I have my own way of doing things and I just chose to keep doing it my way instead of messing with another system.  To each their own though.
