I need some house reno advice

We are going to start pricing this weekend on installing wood floors in our house. We don't know if we want to install them ourselves (my parents are experienced so they offered to help out) or having them professionally installed. Also please recommend a reasonably price, but great quailty place to start searching. TIA!

Re: I need some house reno advice

  • I am not at all an expert and also have not had floors installed yet. But, I will say that what we paid the painters to paint the whole house was well worth it. Their estimate sounded like a lot, but it would have taken us a month of evening and weekend work to do what they did in a week. I'm all about paying people to do the work if you can afford it to save your time.

I'm the kind of person who would spend the money to pay someone else to do it. You should see DH and I try to even hang curtains. It's not pretty.

Lol. Been there with the curtains.

A couple of people have told me that paying to join Angie's list when you're doing home renovations is worth the cost. I haven't done so, but it might be worth looking into.

  • Paying to have someone install the floors will double or triple your materials cost. If you know of someone that can do it and they want to, let them. It is easy to do but is a slow process regardless of who installs the flooring.
