I'm just starting to research a bit...its kind of overwhelming! I lurk on the CD board in TB, but was wondering if any of you had experience with different brands/types of cloth diapers?
Re: anyone use CD?
Do you use wetbags or garbage cans to put dirty ones in the room? Glad you like using CD!
why are BG your fav?
We do. We tried the Rumparooz Lil Joey Newborn diapers for a few days, but they leaked like crazy. I bought the bumGenius Newborn AIOs and they've been fantastic. Our stash is all BG 4.0 pockets for when he fits into those.
ETA: We use a wet bag in our diaper bag. We bought a pail liner, but right now I throw the wet ones in the laundry room in a laundry basket after I peel the poop off. At the end of the day, I bring up the dirty ones from downstairs (where we spend a majority of our time). I do laundry EOD.
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.
If you were in my shoes, you'd fall the first step."
We use predominately prefolds and kissaluv fitteds. We have 4 swaddlebee simples (NB so he is about to grow out of them) and 2 flip stay dry inserts that we use overnight (the swaddlebees are for overnight as well). I found that we didn't like the fuzzibunz pockets and BG's. we are also going for cost effective and prefolds are the most cost effective. I like that when the diaper is dirty I only have to put the inside (prefold or fitted) in the laundry and reuse the cover a few more times. I just bought the next size of prefolds off Craigslist. 29 prefolds and 2 barely used covers for $80. That will get him through quite awhile. He still fits in the fitteds also so we are on major diaper overload. We use a medium size wetbag that hangs on the door. At this point we have so many diapers that I'm doing laundry every 6 days-when we run out of overnight diapers. I have an excess of covers as well (also a Craigslist purchase). I will need to get him some size two covers though.
we want him potty trained ASAP and prefolds he feels the wet. The pockets and all in ones usually pull the moisture away so that they feel dry. If he goes in to daycare we will have to purchase some BG's but until then he's a prefold baby. The other night we forgot to change his diaper after his bedtime bottle (oops. He had just gone in to the diaper a half hour before because we messed up our timing and figured we wouldn't bother him until after he ate but we both forgot). He slept through the night and he didn't leak all night long. We get more leaks with our pockets so I really don't use them.
We have used them since DS was about 3 weeks old. We use mostly pockets (BumGenius, Rumparooz and Kawaii Baby), but fitteds (thirsties) with hemp inserts for naps and ON.
Pockets are great, because they are similar to disposables in that you take the whole diaper off and put a whole new one on. You can customize the absorbency too, which I like. We are able to use cloth at day care, too.
We plan to use fitteds from the get go with the next baby. We used sposies with DS until he was 3 weeks old.
If you can, take a class. It was really helpful for us.
5 cats. 1 baby.
We used GMD prefolds with Thirsties and Bummis covers when DD was an infant and mainly use BG 4.0s during the day and fitteds with a cover at night. We find the BGs are really easy to use and it's easy to add absorbency with a pocket diaper as needed
We use a wetbag out and about but at home (and at daycare) just use a trash can with a pail liner.
They fit her well and are slightly easier to put on then the others.
We have a garbage can with a pail liner in it, a large wet bag for daycare, and a small wet bag for the diaper bag.
We CD.
We started at 10 days old. For the NB stage, we loved all in ones and fitteds with covers. I just couldn't get into prefolds. For aio's, we had lil joeys, BG and grovia. I liked the lil joeys the best hands down because they fit her really well. The BG leaked every freakin time. The only reason why I will hang onto the BG is incase our next LO fits into it better.
Now, we use all pockets. We mostly have BG 4.0s, but we also use Kawaii baby and fuzzibuns. I would love to get more Kawaii baby, because those are probably tied for my favorite with BG.
I do. Our stash is mostly Bum Genius - both 4.0s and Freetime. I like the 4.0s the best. I have a few fuzibunz, and they're okay but difficult to stuff. The Kawaii babies are alright, but just not as good as the BGs.
We skipped using CDs for the newborn stage and just used all of the disposables that we received as shower gifts.
I found a lot of good info on Kelly's Closet. It can definitely be overwhelming at first, but there are a lot of girls here who CD and are super helpful!
ETA: We use only the planet wise zippered wet bags.

We used Osocozy prefolds and Thirsties Duo covers in the newborn stage. We had 24 prefolds (we just did a simple trifold) and 6 covers and did a wash EOD. We used Kushies AIOs overnight.
Now we have been burning through packs of sposies that we received for Christmas and I'm itching to get Lil into her OS AIOs. We have some pockets that I like because I add extra liners at night so she doesn't leak. I am looking to try some new brands though. I will probably get a couple BG 4.0s to try, and I have a feeling we'll need to look into some new overnight solutions because she wakes up fairly soaked now.
We have Planet Wise wet bags, we use free and clear detergent and coconut oil in lieu of diaper cream. She has one ly had a diaper rash once in the fall when we used sposies for a week, and this week she has had a rash due to diarrhea from her antibiotics.
my blog
We sort of do a hybrid approach. I use CDs on her during the day when we're home. When we go out and at night she is in sposies.
We also did disposables until she was about 9 pounds and would fit in one-size diapers. She is in Grovia (both AIO and Shells) and Bumgenius Freetime. All are working great for us.
I will say that it is pretty easy to find cloth diapers on sale-- I bought mine on Grovia website when they had a sale, and also on cotton babies during one of their sales. So, you do not need to pay full price ever.
I would start with just 1-2 of 2-3 different kinds and see what you think before buying a lot of any one kind. I would have preferred to have a stash that is all the same kind rather than a mix-- it is confusing for my occasional caregivers to use shells sometimes and AIOs sometimes, and the different brands have different washing and drying instructions and you do not want to be sorting through poopy laundry into different batches, so you will want to be able to wash your diapers all together. So washing instructions is one thing you'll want to keep an eye out for.
(Grovia and BumGenius have different washing instructions but I have just decided to compromise on both-- so I wash Grovia on hot when it instructs warm, and drive BG in the dryer, when it instructs to hang dry--- and so far everything is still holding up).
For now we have a large PlanetWise wet bag just hanging on a hook. And we leave it unzipped because dealing with a squirming baby and a poopy diaper and a zipper all at once is too much. No smell yet. Though I hear when they start solids it begins to smell-- not sure what we'll do then.
