We haven't dealt with any major rash issues yet. Well little A got rashy this week on Thursday, it was bright red at first and with some cream it really calmed down but is still slightly there. There is one spot that looks kind of like a sore but it was never a blister or anything, no puss or even any dead skin around it. Last night my NICU nurse friend looks at it and said it kind of looks like staph...insert complete panic mode!
So I have been consulting Dr. Google which is a total waste because all the pictures I can find are horrifying and look absolutely nothing like what he has going on. After reading descriptions of different rashes I can draw some similarities to what he has and a yeast rash so I feel like that may be a possibility.
I have no reason to think this is staph other than my friend mentioning it. She said she hasn't had any patients with it but her niece and nephew had some bad issues with it a few years back, so I don't really put much stock into her thoughts. But now that seed has been planted in my mind and I can't shake it.
So the plan of action is as much diaper free time as possible today, We are only putting one on him for feedings and naps, rest of the day he is in the buff. It already looks better than it did last night but I feel like if it isn't 100% gone by tonight I will want DH to take him to the pedi tomorrow.
DH of course thinks I am freaking out for no reason, that our friend is an idiot, and that A just has a rash that got a little extra irritation from being in his exersaucer too long yesterday (the sore spot is right where the fabric seat would press against him).
If you have any advice please bestow it upon us. Blaaahhhhh!!!
Re: Diaper Rash Freak Out Vent
Definitely keep him in the buff down there as much as possible. a couple weeks ago DD had horrible diaper rash after pooping 6 times! She was red, raw and had welts. what I did was have her sit in her bath for a long while and then let her air dry. She's older than your little man so I couldn't keep her naked long but as soon as I noticed a damp diaper, I'd change her and everytime I did, I let her air dry. if I had to clean her, I used a damp lukewarm towel. No wipes. At night, I slathered on the extra strength Desitin. She was 100% the day after.
We don't like to see our babes in pain or uncomfortable so I understand. oh and stay away from Google. Hope he feels better soon!
